<div>Ditto that. When the oral surgeon asked me what kind of anesthesia I wanted for my wisdom teeth removal, I told him to knock me out! No way was I only going to do local! </div><div>

LMAO fire yes yes I think we are dental twins! I am the same way.
The dentist I go to is a former AF pilot and thinks I'm hilarious.. and also appreciates that I'm not a typical "military wife" .. lol.. I will take that as a compliment I suppose.

I think dentists are worried about giving people too many drugs since there are so many people that get addicted and use them incorrectly... luckily my dentists knows I'm no BSC and gave me the hard stuff.. lol.. I can't even pronounce it, but it pretty much knocks me out on my way to his office.. of course he still gives me the gas because I wants it. :P
I rarely take drugs (H gets mad that I don't when I have a headache), but when it comes to the dentist, I require it ALL!!

I have awfull teeth :/ I need braces so bad, and right when I was going to get them, he proposed! I couldn't have braces in my wedding! But, I really want to do the Invisaline. I just don't know how expensive it will be :/ hopefully FI can get me a hook up!

<div>Yeah, I get why it's a big deal..... I see tons of people abusing drugs, but honestly- with mouth stuff its obvious if you need it or not. I mean; if you have an abscessed tooth, you can tell. Obviously you can tell if someone has a cavity; they wouldn't have a drill in their mouth otherwise. The people that get addicted to IV pain meds are typically people with chronic problems. I don't consider teeth a chronic problem... unless you have one tooth that you refuse to get fixed. We had a pt come in to the ER 7 times in a month for the SAME tooth. At that point, the doc said "yeah, no pain meds for you, grow a brain, see a dentist" basically. </div><div>
</div><div>haha, I don't know what the acronym BSC was supposed to be here, but my mind made it batshit crazy - something I wish we were allowed to legally diagnose patients as. </div>

firemed- that's what BSC stands for :) you got it!
To be fair, I remember when I went to the dentist (not the one I have now) a few years ago and had a deep cavity. He said it's deep.. it may be a root canal. BUt I was going to camp for 6 weeks so I couldn't have it done til after. So he said to be safe lets prescribe you with penicillin (to clean out any infection) and some pain killers.. just in case.. 6 weeks is a long time.
    Um... 3 months of oxycodone.
WTF?! That's a TON of a SERIOUSLY ADDICTIVE drug?!
He was just passing it out as a "just in case" to a teenager?! What an idiot. We neer filled the prescribtion. I didn't need it. Nor would anyone. DUDE, three months worth when I'll see you in 6 weeks? yikes..

Cab- eek! shame on you mom!!
I didn't give a crap about my bouquet since they start wilting during the reception.. lol. I just got a bouquet from a local grocery store and it pushed together tightly, and wrapped with floral tape and ribbon. No one would have known the diff.

CAB, I have Invisalign currently. No one ever can tell except others who have Invisalign. They just notice they're a bit shiny, and it's always, "Do you have Invisalign?" because it is hard to be sure. Mine are due to be done well before my wedding, but even if they aren't, I just won't wear them that day. It sets you back two days, but it would be worth it! I'd still wear it to bed - I can't sleep without them now!

I am fortunate to have pretty good teeth, my bottoms are a little crooked, but the way I smile you never see them. My dentist asked if I wanted to do braces, but I'm cool with them. Mine are just so sensitive that whitening is a real pain (any recs for that?).

CAB-you make me laugh so hard.

I woke up at 5 and it's been the everybody gets sick day. FI's not feeling great, neither am I, and both animals have thrown up multiple times, including on me. And I've been peed on. Today sucks, and I would like a do-over. I hate this humidity, we lost it for a week or so, but it's like everything feels a little damp. Bah, I'm going to make soup.

It wasn't cheap - I have heard from a Navy wife who has it that if you can get the dentist to say it's medically necessary (and it sounds like in a few years, you can get the dentist to say just about anything!) then TriCare will pay some of it.  I actually did need it - my bottom teeth were so crowded that it physically hurt while working out.  My teeth would press together more from the blood pumping and it would ache like heck.  When I realized while training for the half marathon that my teeth hurt more than my legs, I knew I needed to do something.

It cost me approximately $4,000.  If your FI becomes a certified dentist (and he should - apparently it isn't hard, a lot are, and it's a serious money maker as you basically do no work since the Invisalign place in California makes the molds) then he can obviously do it for much cheaper.  He doesn't have to be an orthodontist to do Invisalign.

Also, about whitening, I'm a big fan of Crest Whitestrips.  I have sensitive teeth, and they do make them a bit more sensitive, but if you do one set every other day (rather than 2 per day for a week, like the box recommends) then it doesn't get as sensitive.  I do one every other day for a week (so 3-4 total) and then take a week or two off and do it again - it gets them super white with minimal pain.  And it's pretty cheap - a good set costs only like $30-40.

I will also say that I had braces for 8 years growing up, and I was really nervous to get back on the orthodontia train due to memories of pain, sore gums, inability to eat.  Invisalign has made it sooooo much easier!  There's one day of adjustment every two weeks when I put in a new set, but if it gets distractingly painful, I just take them out for an hour or two and then stick them back in.  After a day, it's all better.  Soooo freaking easy and they're looking great!

Thank you so much for that info! I will make sure to tell FI about the cert. dentist thing. He WILL get me a discount, dammit!

div my teeth are super sensitive to anything whitening as well, so I just don't bother... However I did bother for the wedding. I used the 2 hour 3d crest white strips. The only reason I did them was because it's ONE application for 2 hours and that's it (you can't use the next application for 3 months). So While the next day SUCKED after doing it, it was just one day and I was good to go again.. those 14 day things are a hello no in my book. lol
