You do realize male and female uniforms are tailored differently.

Kendall, that's a good point - once you have your dress blues, just make sure it fits under the back of the collar, and you should be fine. If it means a difference of 1" or so from where you intended, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But I guess it's a matter of prioritizing - you can have what you want and where you want it, but only after you're out of the military. Or you can have what you want in a slightly different spot. The only one who can make that call is you!

I mean I don't mind moving it down a bit but I don't want it on my back. My neck is where I want it. I guess in a sense at least I'm being smart about making sure its hidden and not some where like my face or wrist

Hey just make sure it's completely covered. DH has a waiver but I know if he walked in with a tattoo on his neck at the naval hospital he may be out of a job and not in the Navy anymore.

It doesn't really matter if you plan on having your hair up really high. Out of regs is out of regs. There's no such thing as just being "a little bit" out of regs. You could technically be out of regs for having a tattoo visible in uniform, as well as not having your hair in regs (even if it's in a bun, if your bun is too low and touches or hangs below your collar it's out of regs) I would suggest moving the tat to another location on your body, or waiting till you get out.

If you enlist and have a waiver that's one thing, but I've known people who went to mast and got put on restriction for getting a tattoo after they enlisted that was visible in uniform and not filling out a request chit of anything. A senior enlisted saw it, looked in their service record and saw that there was nothing in there about it and sought out to punish them for it. This happened 3 times before my whole command had to list in detail any tattoos on their body (even if they weren't visible in uniform) and have that put in our SR. I went in with a tattoo waiver and the one I had at the time wasn't even visible in uniform, but I wasn't taking any chances. I talked to my chain of command before I got my second one and they helped me fill out the paperwork.

[QUOTE]I'm soooo not a tattoo girl - I don't have any, no one in my family has any (that I know of - it would cause a big fuss), and I've never really dated anyone who has had any. And the one person I did date briefly who had a tattoo was a Marine who had an EGA tattoo on his arm (just like FI wants) and it turned out that asshat was married the whole time we were dating. So let's just say it all leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I am really nervous about him getting a tattoo, that it'll be awful and I hate it or that he'll later switch to private practice and it will somehow negatively impact how he is viewed. My parents are in that country club members, yacht owners echelon, where most everyone are doctors or lawyers or investment bankers, and no one in that upper economic bracket really has any tattoos, and they judge people who have them very harshly. I'm afraid that it will impact FI's ability to climb the corporate ladder when he gets out of the Marines because of that. But he's promised that it will be his only tattoo, and that it'll be on his upper arm so it would be hidden to nearly everyone except when at the beach or when wearing a sleeveless shirt working out. I know I'm making a bigger deal out of this than I should over a silly tattoo. I am trying to find designs I like that I can suggest to him and researching tattoo artists here so we can find a good one.

Those people in my mind sit right next to the people that fired you for being engaged. Does your H really want to work for people like that? There is no way in hell I would. Especially over a tattoo that is honoring/representing his time in the service.

If it was a tacky, naked pin up or something completely random- (My sister's tattoo of lips on her ass come to mind) then sure I can see people giving him the side eye.
But if anyone so much as said anything about my memorial tattoos on my feet I would put them in their place right then and there.
