um yesss - i grew up with my dad being a huggggeee john wayne fan - no lie we have probably 50 + of the movies Quiet Man is one of my favorite and McKlintock both Wayne and Maureen O - love love love :) It is one of those random things that make FI and us happy together they were also family movies for him. - well not darby o gill that was a funny story - i'm disney educating him.

On another note the other sn everyone asks about is littlebluemonster which isn't my knot sn but funny story. FI gets jealous some times especially when we were talking but not "dating" (we now see we were but whatever what is in a title) and I used to ask him if he had little green monsters. When we went to Charleston we were reading historic markers and I was giving him a Historic run down tour and he read so slow that he told me that reading had stunted my growth so i couldn't be big and strong like him and because he sacrificed for the betterment of the army he didn't read fast so he could stay bigger. Then from all that he became a big green monster after we made an oscar the grouch costume for Halloween (garbage can and all it was epic i should find a picture) and I was sad from being separated so he would ask if i had little blue monsters so I became a little blue monster and he became a big green monster. It has carried into everything!!! gifts and holidays now revolve around this nonsence.

Irish - what about Brigadoon?  And The Happiest Millionaire?

Yes, my FI also knew a lot of these movies, and the ones he hadn't seen he really enjoys now!  We're bringing a bunch on our trip to Costa Rica in case we get rained in for a day - the 6 of us could quite happily pass a day watching old movies and playing board games!

It is like we live the same life - hahah i love gene kelly - brigadoon is such a good movie. Anchors Aweigh and Singing in the Rain are also great - but not related to Ireland. The Happiest Millionair is also a good one. I haven't seen that one in forever because i don't own it - go figure.

I was working the phones one night when i was in highschool and my dad does this snap thing to make us shut up and turn down the tv when we work phones at night and the lady heard the music before we got it down and was like oh your watching Brigadoon!! I love that movie can you please come tow my car - but wait til this this part is over because you shouldn't stop until there is a scene change - so funny!!!

I posted it on my blog this morning/afternoon even though it isn't wedding related, but we started doing a best picture winning watch the movies thing. We are a little under 30 off finished i think for watching all the winners then we will go back and watch all the nominees. It has been so much fun to watch all the old movies and some of the newer ones - Fi wasn't a huge movie guy and owned maybe 10 dvds when we met. I on the other hand probably have close to 400 + movies. (the lists are in word form on my blog fyi) It has been great in getting to know each other and our date night thing that we do when we are together at least once a week. - no cable haha

WTH I am trying to quote you Calindi, but it keeps quoting some other thread about ripping someones heart out lol

But anyway, Calindi, Rose is also my mom's middle name, so I would like to pass it on as well if i have a girl! Unfortunately, my FI wants to do the same if we have a boy....middle name, Eugen (pronounced Oygen w/ a soft "g"). Ugh.

And Crown, Calindi, FTL and whoever else, I vote we figure out when abc will be playing Hocus Pocus and watch it "together"!! It will also help the time pass since  my FI will be on a month-long det (boo)!
Agreed Calindi. that's all you can do. The thing is.. if someone were to break into your house and you have your gun and bullets that safe, there is no way you will be calm and collected enough to get to them, unlock both, load the gun, and aim successfully. THAT'S why I hate it when people argue that it's for home safety. BUT they are fun, and just another skill to know. I hate hunting.. that makes me sad, but it really is relaxing and exhilarating all at the same time. :)
    Posted by firsttimersluck
I own my own handgun. I use it for home safety as well as target practice etc. Although it is not loaded, I do keep a loaded magazine locked with it, in my safe by my bed. Trust me when I say that I would be able to get to it and shoot if I needed to.

Growing up I was scared of guns because I was never exposed to them. Learning about them and getting an accurate basic knowledge of them is the first step to curing your fears : )
H and I have both agree to teach our children firearm safety so they know the dangers etc. Every single story I have read/heard where a child is injured was because the parents didn't actually lock the firearm (ie. their child had access) or they didn't teach their children the dangers of gun.

I'm wondering if it might be on Netflix to stream?  Hocus Pocus seems like the kind of movie that might be on there.  In which case, we could just pick a night!

Same here... Or at least it will be when we get married... it's so weird to think that 11 years ago, I could have ended up a weirdo! I'd sooo be divorced right now if that happened.

Oh FTL, I believe that makes us the same age! And I agree, I'm only 4.5 years out of high school, and thinking about marrying a HS bf makes me shudder. Heck, makes me wanna vom thinking about marrying my first college bf! I know it's only been 4.5 years, but I think I have grown up SO much since then. Kendall, not saying that YOU are immature because I don't really know you (on here or IRL), but looking back, I feel like I was pretty immature at 19. I can't even imagine my life now if I would've married any of my bfs at that age. Divorced, I'm sure. EDIT: my FI and I did go to HS together, had a little "thing" at the end of senior year. But we went our separate ways for over three years which gave us both the chance to grow. And believe me, my FI has matured so much since joining the Navy!

Yeah.. I wouldn't even say I was immature when I was just out of high school.. I would just say that I wasn't 100% aware of what I wanted and NEEDED in a life partner. I think I have always had a bit of an old soul, but man... I sure sucked at picking them in hs :o)

Bad news ladies....Hocus Pocus is "dvd only" on Netflix. And I believe they changed it so now you have to pay a whole other fee for the dvd. Guess I'm watching it online this year!

yeah.. men reeeeally seem to mature when they join the military. It's amazing how much. H says that I would not have liked him so much before he joined.. so that totally makes sense that you and your Fi going separate ways for a while has allowed you both to mature. That's pretty cool that you two grew separately and still connected after so much time had passed. That definitely speaks to the strength and connection of your relationship.

Thanks! Ya it's been great! We stayed in touch over the years and I saw him slowly mature, but he REALLY seemed like a different person after he got back from his first cruise last summer. And that's when we finally really connected and decided to date. So that's that :)

I know I'm posting super late (but I'm stuck at work because my guys can't seem to follow simple instructions, so they're staying until I'm happy) so I thought I'd jump on and see what was going on.

As for my SN, while we were dating, my H used to say what a great team we made- always saying "we're a team, baby."  It just morphed into "Team Baby."  It's silly, but it's "us" and we even have it engraved on our wedding bands.  :)

Mine is just a mispelled version of my nick name which is a shortened version of my partial full name.. Did you get that?

    Tehehe..

True story: I was not qualified to shoot or tote a gun in the military.  I qualed my first time shooting (In my life!) In bootcamp, but then I was disqualified because when they say "Cease Fire" everyone elses target would turn, but mine didn't.. I was terrified and even though they let me shoot again.. I was really shaken up so I still didn't do very good.. Embarassed

I think this about sums it up for me, too. I remember my first love fondly - I was 18 when I met him and nearly 20 when we broke up. But he by no means had what I needed in a life partner, though I believed otherwise at the time. I knew a lot of couples at that point, who were together 1-2 years, and only one of them is still together and they're not even engaged yet 7 years later! I'll be going to my 10 year high school reunion about a month after my 1 year anniversary. It's amazing how people change so much even by the 5 year reunion. Keeping friendships that long is tough; keeping a relationship alive and well is nearly impossible.

I have never shot a gun. H promises to take me soon because I want to.
