Can I ask a question? NWR

I'm planning a baby shower for a co-worker and need help with the menu decision. I posted on thebump's baby shower board but I don't know anyone over there and I kind of feel like I know you ladies after lurking so long and I trust all of you to steer me straight. I won't ask and will totally drop the subject, since it's bump related, not knot related, if you tell me no.

Re: Can I ask a question? NWR

• Any baby shower I have been to it's just been finger foods like deviled eggs, veggie and fruit trays, crackers and chips, dips, baby shower cake of course. I find that if it's kept simple it's not only less clean up, but people are more likely to eat and munch on it rather than having a huge plateful of food. HTH.

Pshhhh... it's LIFE related, and we're all about life here!  Weddings come secondary to life.

You could do a theme if you wanted - but really for foods, just go with something easy!  It all depends on budget, of course.

Is it a boy or girl?  Do you want it gender-related themed?

• I second AMH--that's the kind of stuff I'm used to eating at showers. I might also suggest if you have a Sam's member ship or know someone who does, that they have a lot of really cute little appetizer things pre-made (mini-quiche, cream puffs, cheese balls) and it's way cheaper to buy those in bulk than to try to get them at the regular grocery store.

• Oh, it's a boy and the theme is jungle animals. I usually pick a theme related to the nursery and buy nursery decor for the party decor. Then the mommy gets stuff for the nursery and I didn't waste money on throw away paper decorations.
• At my bridal shower we did a fancy, amazing chicken salad on croissants.

I hope this shows up, my last three attempts to comment disappeared into la-la land....

We had that at my bridal shower too. Loved it! Mayo makes the mommy-to-be sick to her tummy though. Poor thing has been sick the whole time, so trying to make the menu things I know she can eat and keep down.

Apparently quoting is the only way to get my posts to show up - so attempt to answer you #3:

It's a boy and the theme is jungle animals. That's the theme of the baby's nursery decor so I plan to buy things for the nursery to decorate the area so everything will go home with the mommy-to-be and not into my trash can.
• So maybe label the food with jungle titles or animal themes?

*Gummy worms
*Animal crackers (good for a pregnant mom's tummy)
*Ants on a log (celery with cream cheese with raisins on top)
*Jungle juice (non-alcoholic, obviously!)
*Alligator-ade (green gatorade!)
*Banana pops (bananas on sticks dipped in chocolate and frozen)
NO! Just kidding. Ditto amh, maybe some mini sandwiches?
Posted by CAB1217
It's a lunch time, so I was thinking we might need something more than sandwiches and most typical party sandwiches make her tummy churn. I was thinking of grilling some chicken and steak kebobs with lots of yummy veggies and doing some apps, but can't decide how many to do or which ones.

• Ditto everything that Amh said.  Oh and you can never go wrong with a small nugget try from Chick-fil-a.  We have one at every party.

LOVE those ideas.
• My sister is having a taco bar for her baby shower! (She has been lovin on tacos and anything pickle flavored during her pregnancy). I guess they're kind of doing a "cravings" theme haha. (Unfortunately I won't be there since we can't afford to fly me halfway across the country while saving for our wedding).

• I just want to add...fried mac and cheese balls! Because they are so amazing! :)
