Military Brides

Hike

H's leave was approved for his buddies' wedding in Pittsburgh. We'll have a full free day to explore the city. If you only had 24hr-- where would you go?!

We haven't booked our flights yet so idk what time we will arrive but we have the rehearsal dinner one night and the wedding dinner the next so we have dinners covered right now.

  • Hi Sammy! So here's what I have come up with so far. You must, must, must promise me you will go to Pamela's for breakfast one morning. It's amazing. Their pancakes are patented and also Obama has them when he came to town. He loved themes much he flew them out to the white house for memorial day. Anyway. Here is the website http://www.pamelasdiner.com/ Another famous food option for lunch is Pirmantis. It was on Man vs. Food and it's probably the most famous food in Pittsburgh. (cal they have them in southern Florida. You should go)
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Sorry I can't post long posts on my iPad or edit. Pirmantis: http://www.primantibros.com/ As for things to do, the Warhol museum is pretty kick ass and is downtown. http://www.warhol.org/ If you want to do something active you can rent bikes and ride them on the jail trail which is along the water. http://www.bikepittsburgh.com/?page_id=8 You can also take a just ducky tour which leaves station square

Sorry again my iPad also doesn't copy and paste a lot. Just ducky: http://www.justduckytours.com/ Those tours leave from station square and there are nice bars and places to eat outside along the water there. They also have access to one of the most famous things to do, the incline. I'll spare you the history but it's very important to the life of Pittsburgh. It'll take you up to Mt. Washington whine has the best picture spots in pittsburgh. http://www.duquesneincline.org/ So if I was visiting, I wouldn't miss Pamela's, pirmantis, and the incline. Those, in my opinion, are must sees. Sammy- thoughts? Add ons?

I know Carnegie is geared more towards kids but I still love going there.  I've made DH go with me a few times and he love it too.

I agree with your must sees.  I could go for some Pamela's right now lol.  I love that place!

If you go to Pamela's in Oakland you should definitely at least drive by Heinz Chapel.  I think it's a sight to see.

  • True story. Also great. http://www.carnegiesciencecenter.org/m/ And there is a casino right down from the science center too. Plus, it's near the stadiums which has awesome landscape and great walking areas.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • P.S. I'm pretty sure this post gave me a boner. I can't wait to go home.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • I always forget that walk is so nice.  Is the submarine still down there?

  • Yup, I'm pretty sure I saw it last time I went to the casino. I loved the science cneter growing up. We had girl scout sleepovers there.

  • I was not expecting so many responses. We'll be heading there over Memorial Day Wknd. My next questions was going to be if there are any special festivals or fun jazz going on.

Idk where we are staying. They have a hotel block but it's at home on the STD. I will be back to tonight to let you know.
  • FTR I effing love pancakes! If they have any type of cinnamon or choc. chip I'll prolly won't leave. Sammy if we can make it work with the schedule I'd love to plan a GTG.

    Aww shucks! Thanks :D

I'm really bummed to be leaving Missy behind but I'm pretty sure she likes her adoptive family that watches her more than us.
  • It's nice to get away without the puppy once in awhile!  If only to see how happy they are when you get back  Laughing

I kind of love how much Hike and Sammy love Pittsburgh.  It makes me super happy for FSIL, who has an internship there this summer and will likely get a post-college job out of it.  It gives me an excuse to visit, and gives her an awesome place to live!  I'll mark all these notes down to tell her about.

On a unrelated note- this couple has SEVEN (7) REGISTRIES. FFS!

ETA: the last one is a HM Registry. idk what the MB knotties view on it but locally rather Minnesota is very frowned upon. NTM these two are both officers from the AFA. (AFA = No College Debt)

Me too. I wish I could catch a steeler game with you!

Shan- sent you on back. I don't know how Pittsburgh is with honeymoon registries. But I will say, you will probably see a head table and dollar dance. Plus, a gap.

Head Tables and Dollar Dances are super popular in Minnesota. We had both, I didn't want a DD but was forced to. We donated the money in memory of my Dad to the non-profit he started before he passed. Still was SUPER awkward dancing.

Oh the cookie table...I love the cookie table.  My cousin provided doggie bags for cookies.  Sometimes they'll give you a shot of whiskey at the end of the dollar dance...that's pretty much the best part.  And polka...lots of polka.

ETA: Disregard comments on the DD.  I see you are VERY familiar lol
