Wedding Planners?

Hey Ladies,
I'm looking at different wedding planners and trying to decide who to hire, but so much depends on how much you want them to do. Have any of you hired a wedding planner and what kinds of things are they in charge of? I know that we definitely need someone for the day-of to orchestrate timing and everything, but what about before then? What kinds of duties do they have? I seriously have no clue about this and need some info before meeting with potential planners. Thanks! Have a wonderful Sunday!

I have my BM's mother who is willing to coordinate for the day of. I didn't really need anyone to coordinate anything else because I am doing it myself. If you give yourself enough time ahead of the wedding then it's totally doable and will save you money.

But if you insist on having one (something I did in the beginning before I started anything) then I would suggest putting aside a few thousand or however much depending on what you want them to do for you.

Aren't planners mostly there to just refer you and show you potential vendors?
