Let's discuss some things...

Re: Let's discuss some things...

• Ok, I swear I mean this with genuine respectful curiosity and not in a "ew what are you thinking?" way, but can those of you who are voting for Romney please explain why? And if your reasons are just fiscal, as I would hope, does Romney's stance on women's and gay rights just not bother you? Or do you see it as less important? I'm just trying to see both sides.
• Part of my reasoning is fiscal, part of my reasoning is international policy. Frankly I think they are both really crappy candidates and if Romney gets in I'd like him to be a one term president.

I personally also feel that no matter Romney's views on women's health or gay rights it wont affect the movements in either. I believe that women's health care will stay, and the gay rights movement has enough momentum to continue.

I however feel like if we continue on this current international policy and monetary path we are going to bankrupt our country and hurt ourselves further in our international relationships. These are two things I cant stand.

I also feel like Obama has done very little but place blame on someone else during his term and has been very unmoving towards the centerfield. Though Romney is very very conservative in his personal beliefs I feel he understands as a president he cant let those beliefs run his office he has to come closer to the center and accept his beliefs are not those of the nation live and let live.

Do I like Romney? Not really, but I like the comments out of Obama even less and I feel like we are in a very messy situation as a country right now and its not improving at all.

• I'd personally prefer a candidate like Gary Johnson to win but that's not going to happen due to the way our system is set up. Which is a shame because I feel he is a much much better option than both of these candidates together.

And you think that Romney is going to help with international relations? Really? I think that he'll ruin more relationships than he'll ameliorate.

• 1) What shoes are you wearing today? Black flats. Just plain ones for work.
2) How are you wearing your hair today? Up in a bun. Usually I straighten it but I was low on time last night/this am.
3) What do you have going on this weekend coming up? Studying and spending some time with BF. I want to get some work out of the way I've been letting build up.
4) Did you watch the debate last week? No, we don't have cable. I read about it though, but didn't really like what I read.
5) Who do you plan to vote for in the presidential election next month? I'm not American so I can't vote.
6) Does it bother you that there is no (NHL) hockey?
Not in the slightest.
7) What's something you're looking forward to in the next month? Halloween party! So excited for it.
8) What's something you're looking forward to in the next 3 months? Vacation over xmas!

9) Are there any movies out that you want to see? I have two sets of free movie tickets but BF and I haven't been to see anything in ages. We'll go see James Bond when it comes out next month.

10) Is it "fall" where you live? It's getting there - leaves are turning and a few are falling.

11) Are you looking forward to winter? Not really. I don't like having to leave 15 minutes early to defrost the car and drive through snow.

12) What are you having/did you have for breakfast today? Frosties

13) Do you like scary movies? If so, what is your favorite? Nope, not at all. Even kiddy scary movies are too scary for me.

14) Are you dressing up for Halloween? Jane from the Volturi in the Twilight season. I've got red contact lenses!
15) What's your favorite Halloween candy? KitKats and Twixes.

• And to catch up...it's been a really long day so far!

Danser - congrats on your anniversary! And yay flowers!

Jen - Blue suade shoes sound so good! I've got a weakness for suade shoes. I love short boots in suade.

Jen & Elle - Parenthood is so good! I started watching S1 a couple of weeks ago and now I'm nearly at the end of S2. Lorelai is always going to be Lorelai though, and yes the casting is really good! It's also kinda what I hope my siblings and I are like in a decade or two.

Peek - what is GS training?

Hummingbird - what is a sock-bun?

Elle - I think the last day to register for the Federal election is the 12th. I don't know if this varies by region but BF was talking about it and I saw a poster.

Shoes - I <3 those shoes!

rdr - I saw the photo on fb about gas prices. When I first moved here, just before Obama got into office, gas was about $3.50. I saw the photo and wondered how many others I have just believed because I didn't know differently. Even in the past week or so I've been more cynical about things I've seen on fb.

Drew - That's appalling that the teacher can teach politics under the guise of religion, and his way of doing it is awful. At least the kids have you in there to show them that there is a different way. Even if I agreed with the substance, there is a time and place. And religion class is not it.

Mmm he's not popular in England. He came over just before the Olympics and said that he thought that they weren't prepared for it. While he was IN England. Then he told everyone he met with the head of MI6. People don't usually tell the media when they've had meetings with the head of the Secret Intelligence Service.

I definitely agree with others about a third party. I think this country would actually be better if a third party candidate had a fighting chance. It's so polarized - Republican vs. Democrat. I lean Democrat mostly because 1. I'm not rich and 2. I'm very liberal on the social issues. However, I think both parties have their plusses and minuses.

There has to be some middle ground somewhere... but because it's so ingrained that is MUST be Republican or Democrat, there will never be another choice. I know in my home state, the best governor we had during my lifetime was Independent. Now he's running, and should easily get elected, to Olympia Snowe's vacated Senate seat.

I remember gas prices went down significantly during the 2008 elections, but under $2?

The last time I saw gas prices under $2/gal (and remember I live in an expensive place) was around 2004 or 2005. But of all things, gas prices seem so minor, especially when you consider it costs twice as much in other countries compared to what we pay now.

Edited because my math was a little wrong.

Yea...Where I was in England five years ago was about 1.2GBP per liter, which at the time was $9. It's gone up more, but the exchange rate has gone the other way, so it's not much higher in $.
• Have you guys taken that quiz where it analyzes your political beliefs and tells you who you side with the most? I like to do them to make sure I'm voting for someone who I *actually* support, not just who I think I should be voting for. My #1 match was surprisingly Barack (I thought it would be someone a little more liberal), closely followed by Jill Stein from the Green Party.

I am an independant and based on the research and etc is why I am voting the way I am. I voted for Obama back in 2008, voted Republican back in 2004. I do not believe Obama did us any good. I understand that he was dealt crap in the beginning, but what has he done to fix it? His budget proposals, the democrats didn't even like his budget proposals, why do you think the US went without a budget for so long?

There is more to it than that, but I wont be getting into those.
