Oh Jeana!  I meant to ask you...in your album of pictures from FB, the dress that was like the one you've picked but with the beading and the off the shoulder thing, what was it?  Do you remember?  I was showing a friend your dress because it sounded exactly like something she wants, and she saw that one and liked it even more.  Thanks!

Acro, I think that one was Alfred Angelo 2302. It's a very similar cut, but a higher neckline and it's satin with some beading on it.

Thanks for the encouragement ladies.  I should probably go this weekend.  But who to take?  My bridesmaids are all OOT.  So I can choose between my super hippy chick friend whose taste varies greatly from mine...or my fashionable but extremely flaky friend who just happens to have the world's hottest body?  Decisions....

NQB-- take the person who will be the most fun and make you feel good about yourself.Go out to lunch, have some mojitos, get giggly, and then go shop. The point on this first trip is not to find THE DRESS, but to put dresses on. All different shapes and fabrics and necklines... so you can narrow down what looks best on you and what you prefer. If you find THE DRESS, great. If not, then you'll have some experience under your belt and it won't be so hard to go again.Just make sure you call for an appointment-- then they'll know to expect you and they'll have someone free to help you. Go in with an open mind and easy-to-take-off clothes. The places I went to provided strapless bras that went down to your hips like a corset, so spanx are probably not even necessary.

As not right as it may be, I think one of the first things I would do upon getting engaged is go dress shopping. I guess that is one thing that I am super excited about. As excited as I may be I have not yet gone dress shopping nor ordered any dresses. Maybe it would be a good thing if I go early I have a feeling I am going to be horribly picky.Good luck on your dress shopping adventures ladies!

I guess my problem is I love my friends but they will each bring their own nuance to the already stressful prospect of looking for a dress. Hippy friend I worry will get all judgy that I am spending x amount of dollars on something that will be worn once and end up in a landfill one day. Diva friend will be 1.5 hours late and probably text a random dude on her phone the whole time.  Also she's so skinny I will want to shoot her as I disrobe. I should just go alone.  I'm hopeless.  Anyone want to fly to Albany this weekend?

NQB, maybe hippy friend would tone down the judging if you specifically tell her you just want to try things on to get an idea of what looks good and you will NOT be buying that day?Eh, I dunno. I have a hippy friend, too... but she lives out of state, thankfully. Everybody has been offering to let me borrow their wedding dresses, but dangit, I want my OWN and I have no illusions that should I ever have a daughter she'd want to wear it. She'll be like me and want her OWN.Oh, yeah, and tell them your budget and don't try on anything above that amount. Been there, done that. Frustrating!

NQB, I'm sure we'd all come if you could webcast your shopping live! what about asking your OOT'ers to take turns coming to visit for a weekend until you find something? are they close enough to make that feasible?

Yeah I guess I could have asked my friend who is in the wedding to come up, except she's also planning a wedding so I didn't want to be all "my day, my day" you know, but I know she wouldn't want to try on dresses for herself upstate. As for my little sis, she's way too busy with high school and applying to college.  My big sis is way too biitchy and doesn't like driving long distance by herself.   And my FSIL has two kids and has barely any time to herself.  They all want me to come try on dresses near where they live because apparently they think I live in the sticks. So I'm pretty screwed.  :-(

Maybe you could ask your friend who's also planning a wedding anyway. Seems like she'd be more likely to understand that you need help and to not be judgy or flaky. Or you could go to her? She probably already knows good places in her area. Make it a roadtrip with your hippy friend?I think you should not be afraid to ask b/c other people are busy. I know you don't want to be all "my day, it's MY DAY," but we all need a little help from our friends, right? maybe if you got them all exchanging emails, you could work out some kind of plan?Alternatively, you and your FI could plan a weekend getaway to AZ, and I could go with you while he golfs or something. :)

Ha, a trip to AZ sounds like fun.  Maybe I could golf while FI looks for dresses.I'm sorta making up excused, mostly because everyone of those people I mentioned live near my parents and I was.just.there 2 times in the past 4 weekends and I need a break from them.I'll get 'er done soon though.

Speaking of not asking people because you think they're too busy, did I forget to tell you ladies that the last time I went dress shopping on October 9, I took 2 friends and one of them was in freakin' labor the whole time and didn't TELL us because she would rather be watching me try on dresses than sitting in the hospital with nothing to do but have contractions? She was writing notes on what she and the other friend thought of each dress on one paper, and writing the times of her contractions on the other. She didn't say anything until she was wincing while I was looking at BM dresses and I asked what was up."Oh, I'm having contractions about every 5 minutes. They hurt pretty bad and if they keep up for another 30 minutes we should probably go to the hospital."Sally Lynn was born at 12:09 am, after dress shopping and going to dinner. So no, your friends are NOT too busy. MY FRIEND was too busy... and she STILL soldiered through. lol

I am going to get her to make a copy of the sheet she wrote her contractions on, if she still has it. I have the paper with dress notes written in purple ink. I think that when I get around to putting my things in a scrapbook I should put the contractions on the page opposite the dress notes, with a little pic of baby Sally. :)

Pink: I’m so sorry to hear about your FFIL.Button: I’m thinking good thoughts for your puppy.Jenna: You look GORGEOUS in your dress! Holy Crap, your friend was in labor??? That’s a pretty freakin’ awesome friend!MidniteRae: I love your siggy!!! I love love love, the Big Bang Theory!NQB: I am neither skinny nor a hippie, and Syracuse is only a 3 hour drive...I wouldn’t have to fly. See you Saturday around noon ; )My weekend (that's what we're talking about right?) was pretty funny actually. I went to my friend's Bridal Shower and Bachelorette Party. I mentioned it in another post but basically this girl I can't stand was going and not only do I despise her, but she's dating my cousin. So anyway, the shower was boring but the bachelorette was fun until later on as we were hanging out drinking wine (does anyone need me to top of their glass?) and my friend mentioned that she is going to hyphenate her name. This chick I dislike was like yeah, I can't hyphenate my name because my last name doesn't go well with what my name is going to be. Another girl asked her what the name was and she said my cousin's last name (also mine). I was like WTF?!?!?! but kept my mouth shut. Then she says under her breath, even if someone here has a problem with that. To which I responded, mmmmhmmmm. ARG!!! Why is my cousin such an idiot (ps. we have history so I hate her for many, many reasons, not just because she's dating my cousin).

I vote for a roadtrip up to wherever NQB is and forcing her to try on obscene amounts of wedding dresses and down obscene amounts of cheap wine and cookies. Who's with me?
