My wedding was/will be tacky because...

...there's no way I'm going to hand-address 200 envelopes.

Your turn.

    Oooooh! I love this post.

We'll end up doing the dollar dance.

    I'm wearing jelly shoes.

And Elle, I, not only plan on addressing all 300 invites, but I also plan on calligraphying them. I took calligraphy for years as a child, so now I love doing it. I'm also planning on addressing all the STDs with calligraphy also :)

    ...I'm doing a garter toss.

...we're not hosting a full open bar.  Wine/soft drinks only.  Other booze is available if you want to buy it.  If you don't like it, tough titties - don't come.

I'm sure there's more but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

According to FMIL, my uneven BP sides and lack of veil will be tacky.

I am also having a crossword puzzle on the back of my menu cards along iwth a cryta-quote.

I don't know of anything else yet.

Oh yeah, and we're having children at the wedding, according to my FMIL, this will "ruin the wedding".

We're also serving milkshakes and sliders at 10:30pm as a "good-bye snack" and this was also tacky according to FMIL, until she found out that her son wanted this, now it is okay.

And FI and his groomsmen are wearing running shoes instead of dress shoes because they are all marathon runners.

    And I mean't crypto-quote.

We are also having newsletter style programs and the answers to the cross word will be in there.

My FMIL also thinks both of my parents walking me down is tacky. She even said "why even have a ceremony if you are changing everything up". My marriage is invalid due to my uneven sides, missing veil, and both parents walking me (which btw is a Jewish wedding tradition and part of my family is Jewish -- but not why I am doing it).

    - We did the money dance.

    - We did a garter and bouquet toss.

    - My bridesmaids did not wear matching dresses.

    - We did not serve any alcohol at our reception (just sodas, punch, water, tea and coffee...there was a bar in the golf course clubhouse that a few people found, but the other 130 people didn't care if they had alcohol or not).

    - Our cake was chocolate with chocolate fudge frosting, no white!

    - I did not wear a veil.

    We are not having ushers...

I'm sure there is more but I can't think of it right now.

    Also my tacky things:

    Doing a garter toss

    three ring bearers

Having a head table which means a couple of them won't be sitting with their SO's

I love the idea of the good-bye snack. That is awesome. I don't think my venue will do that, and even if it is, it's over budget. But still awesome.

    Let's see, as mentioned before:
    -no veil
    -non-matchy BM dresses
-no full open bar (cocktail hour is open, followed by wine & non-alcoholic drinks)

I actually don't want anyone walking me down the aisle, but FI insists, so we're each having both parents walk us down.

My own personal tackyness will probably be me singing at the reception. There seems to be a double standard that it's okay for the groom to sing, but not the bride. I don't get that at all!

I'm also doing my own bouquets, centerpieces, and invites (with email save-the-dates), which some might consider tacky.
  • edited December 2011
Oh, and we are doing a slide show.

It's the one thing fi wants so I have to be on board.

I at least convinced him to have it playing during cocktail hour and not to disrupt the reception by our embarrassing photos.

    Oh!! Yes!

    1. I labelled my invite addresses (booyah!)

    2. We didn't have open bar

    3. My slit was so high on the back of my dress people could see my garter while I was dancing (This was not on purpose, but I think it's hysterical.)

I'm with you, Leia.  I always imagined that I would walk down the aisle solo, but I'm starting to worry that I might hurt my dad if I tell him that, so I'm going to try to convince FI to do it the Jewish way.  I figure I have a while before I have to worry about it.

Wow. My MIL left me alone with my planning, even though it was her firstborn son and her first child to get married. She's pretty awesome.

But I did totally send our invitations and the envelopes through a printer.

We took almost 4 months to send out all our TYs.

We missed 2 tables during our reception table visits.

Our GMs definitely insisted the DJ play "I'm on a Boat." Fortunately, they didn't get drunk enough to do this until quite late and most of the older relatives had left by then. I think. I may or may not have been pretty drunk myself at that point...which is why when the DJ came to me for approval, I just waved my hand and said "Whatever! It'll be FIIIIIINE! Tee hee hee hee hee!"

My wedding was obviously tacky because:

    No one walked me down

BM's had all diffeent color dresses

BM's had silk pomanders vs real flowers

We decided to forego real flower centerpieces and make our own from Michaels

It was outdoors ( certain co workers gave me the side eye , but we are not religious and Tahoe was epic)

No open bar - We provided wine , champagne and soft drinks. No one complained nor was anyone hurting for alcohol lol.

Our reception was in a restaurant

We combined our bachelor/bachelorette parties into one huge party.

We printed our own invitations at home.

It was still the most amazing day of my life and thats all that matters <3

I don't even know where to start about how my wedding could be considered tacky. Most of mine have already been mentioned, including smores!

Also, if we are all saying essentially the same thing...does that still make it tacky? Just curious.

Why is this tacky?! JSYK, having both parents walk down the aisle with the bride is a Jewish custom. The groom walks in with both parents too.

My wedding will be tacky because we have uneven BP sides and a female groom's attendant who insists on wearing a tux instead of a dress (which I think is awesome and hilarious).

My imaginary unplanned wedding will be tacky because...

-I refuse to wear white.  Off-white and ivory are too close to white for me. I like the Maggie Sottero dresses that are called light gold, champagne or cafe'.

    -I will have kegs.

-After watching The Hangover, BF wants a bouncy castle.  I will try to make this happen.
