Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

WP recognition without a program?

We have a large wedding party so have long decide to not have them wait to walk in with an intro at the reception.  Just FI and I will be introduced.  Our ceremony is simple so we were thinking of also skipping programs (this would help us cut costs as well which is important for our tight budget).  But, that means at no point will guests be made aware of the names of our WP.  I think it is important to have the recognized somewhere by name just not those people standing up there.  These are the only two ways I've heard of acknowledging them.  Are there other alternatives?  Should I just maybe get some free VP postcards or something made up with the names of the WP, parents, siblings, etc as kind of a who's who instead of a program? DIY and inexpensive ideas appreciated!!!!

  • depending on how your service is set up, i've seen it where they have written the order of the wedding party on a chalk board in calligraphy, that way everyone kind of has an idea of who is who standing up with you.

  • Maybe a cute table set up with a "Meet the Wedding Party" theme? You know a picture of each and a little about how they came to be in the WP. You could do it yourself for a reasonable price; just 4x6 pictures, a printer, and some picture frames. I found something similar on here only it was "Meet the Maids".

This is actually exactly what I was going to recommend.  Having pictures set up with their names and title.  Could also be a nice gift for them as well.  I did a picture frame for my MOH's and they loved it.  Maybe get just get some cheap frames from $1 store paint over them and put a picture in them, maybe even tell your WP that after the wedding you will be replacing a picture with one from the wedding.

And FWIW: we had a simple ceremony yet we still did a program.  I wasn't going to but I wanted a way to introduce the WP plus give directions to the reception site.  So the front cover was our name/date/location.  Inside left was ceremony order (which was short so we also had a thank you message on that page), inside right was WP and parents, back cover was directions to reception site.  I created them in Publisher and printed them on brown card stock (50 for $3.49) that I got with a coupon at Michaels.  Printed them, folded them in half, and was done.

Here's a pic of one of the picture frames:

  • I think if you're doing cards, those would pretty much be your programs. They could be done pretty cheaply (or you could do those fortune teller ones which require only one piece of paper). The "Meet the Wedding Party Table" is a really cute idea too.
  • We put our wedding party's pictures and info on our wedding website.  Hopefully that's good enough for everyone.  Programs just seem like a waste of valuable money that could be better spent elsewhere (at least for us).
