Not Engaged Yet

Yeah, this isn't going to be good for my BSC. :)

So, in a couple of weeks, my boss is having me work a booth at a promo event for a wedding giveaway contest sponsored by our local news station.

There'll be booths/stations from all kinds of wedding vendors, and the six finalists will be announced there.

It's also almost exactly on the anniversary of the first time BF and I met--when we were both in our best friends' wedding. (ETA: did I mention I caught the bouquet at said wedding?)

WTF, universe?! We are sooo not there yet.

Down, BSC! Down, boy! ::swat::

Maybe I'll snag a glass of champagne, at least? Girls, please tell me other things I can occupy myself with other than gazing at flower arrangements! GAH.

Re: Yeah, this isn't going to be good for my BSC. :)

Wow... That is rough. If it were me, I'd be like a kid in a candy store! Is there a lot of prep or is more of a show up that day and just stand there kind of event?

Oh man, that sounds like torture. There was a radio commercial today for a bridal show here in PHX this weekend. BF didn't even blink but I practically started salivating, so I know right where you're at!

I'd throw yourself 100% into doing whatever it is that you need to do at your booth. Keep your head down and walk quickly to and from your booth. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING! :)

Step away from the flowers, Marely!

Go around and find the cake places.  Eat their cake.  Seriously, best part of bridal shows.

    LOL. I know it.

Some prep, yes. Regular materials, of course, like brochures, etc; also, and here's the fun part: I'm in charge of doing some kind of decoration of the booth! DEAR LORD, save me from my BSC self! Tongue out

    Ugh, that sucks.

The wedding show in my hometown is this weekend and I asked my mom to drop in and get a list of the vendors there cause so many of them don't have easily finadable (is that a word?) websites and she said 'oh,  i'll see if your sister wants to go' to which i replied 'mom, see if you can tag along with heather (our neighbour's daughter who just got engaged as well) don't put sister through that."

We will see how that goes.

Oooh, Hazel, hope your sister doesn't get dragged along if she doesn't want to go! If she does, tell her what Paige told me: CAKE.

I can't wait to eat some cake! Wish there was a show here soon.

Marley, you should be on the look out for some bridezillas to laugh at. I love people watching and could probably waste a day at the airport or something just watching what people do in unusual situations.

In short, focus on people rather than pretty things. I know it will be hard, but you can do it!!!

I wanted to go to the wedding show here so bad a few weeks ago, and same thing, any time I heard about it I was the same way. My partner wouldn't react at all and I'd be drooling. I think I even said to him a few times "ooooh wonderful wedding show this weekend!" He did tell me if I really wanted to go that bad I should just go. But I couldn't really jusify going this year. Next year though I'll have ring on my finger and can 100% justify going. I love wedding related stuff. I actually think my dream job would be a wedding and event planner, if it wasn't for the hours. I'd hate working weekends all summer long :( If it was a stritly M-F 9- job I'd do it....

Also, please excuse my ignorance, but what does "BSC" stand for?

I like NikNik's idea, to people watch! I love looking for bridezillas at those kinds of shows. FI and I went to a bridal show the other weekend... His main purpose in going: To see bridezilla's fight over something. As we were getting in the car, my FI looked sad. When I asked him why? His response? There were no bridezilla fights :( hahaha... But he did say all the cake (And all the photobooth pictures) made up for the lack of girl fights. LOL!

So, eat cake and enjoy the bridezillas! And be a little BSC and take mental notes of what you liked :)

    That's right, I'm an enabler.

(Although chiano's idea is also a win, maybe you could do both simultaneously.)

Also, to answer your question, futuremrstje, BSC means bat-sh*t crazy. We usually use it on this board to refer to the often-questionable practice of planning a wedding prior to being engaged, but IMO it's a great term for any situation where you've got a completely nutty person on your hands. Smile For more on this, see the Welcome thread near the top of the page "...Please read before posting!"

    CAKE!

I'm oddly not intrigued by bridal shows - I hate crowds and convention-style events, so I guess that's probably why.  So in your shoes, I wouldn't be tempted much!

Your eyes will take things in, but just appreciate things as they are and not what they could be!  Like, "Oh!  That's a really pretty flower arranagement!  I love tulips!" is totally different than, "Oh! I love that, and can totally see it with a few more roses on the guest book table."  Get it?  And keep your hands off any pens for giveaways and contests - remember most of those things are ways to stalk you infinitely anyway!

    Have fun!!!!
