In light of all this I just looked up how much the equivalent of my ring would be at Tiffany's.

    Whoa!!

$1100 shoes? For that price, I hope they give you a massage while you walk.  Most heels feel like torture devices to me, and I've always been curious if designer shoes would feel $300-$1000 better on my feet.
That's cool, it was more the idea that if someone DOES judge someone for having a Tiffany's ring or Cartier watch, that's classist.  If you can afford the more expensive things and you see value in it, cool.  If you find it necessary to judge others, not so cool. I'm sorry for it seeming like I was name-calling you, flyjawn.  Like I said, my snark was directed towards my idiot colleague who seems to just drop money like a moron and won't wear anything if it isn't the BEST name brand.  Oh, and she tells us all how much it costs every time she wears it.  That is trashy.  And she judges me because I love my $40 Fossil watch.  I'm buying BF an $800 watch when we get engaged (I told him that if he's buying me a ring, I'm buying him a watch - it's the feminist equality-lover in me who still likes pretty sparkly engagement rings). If you love it because it's pretty, cool.  If you love it because it has a certain name, not so cool.
    Posted by catemeg
i totally understand.

i honestly couldn't care less about brand names or fancy stuff.  i love fossil watches btw so tell your colleague to stuff it.

i just live in a weird world where i have access to expensive things through my SO.

Buttons - me too! My $25 high heels from Marshall's do the job.

I would be interested in walking around in an expensive pair for a day though to see the difference.

expensive heels are *slightly* more comfortable but not anywhere near enough to be worth the price.

in my opinion, $80-$200 heels are about the price where they become more comfy.  anything beyond that, you're just paying for the name.  or in the case of my louboutin's, you're paying for the red sole.

my shoes are 5 inches and NOTHING is comfortable at 5 inches!

Boo... I had the hopes that if I bought a pair, it would be like walking on a cloud.  I guess 3 inches is the comfort zone.  Maybe will buy myself a really nice pair in the price point you suggested and hope I don't get any more blisters.  I was seriously limping by the end of the night.  Why do men get to wear semi-comfortable shoes for business?

Men have to buy expensive shoes too. FI's dad bought a 900 pair of custom made German shoes. And he wore the crap out of them. We do live in a society where people are completely fiscally irresponsible, however, if you have 12k to spend on a ring/watch/car more power to you. In studies, they have found people that EARN that money tend to be better stewards of it as well, so in Fly's case, I think you are just fine.

I've already told myself if I get this job I'm buying black Jimmy Choo's or Blaniks, I've heard they hold up really well.

WHEN you get the job - not if.  And you definitely will deserve to treat yourself!  Especially since they'll make great 'first day of work' shoes when you finally get to the office (you can do this long distance for awhile, if I remember correctly).

I think the whole point was if someone sees value in the product and can afford it, then great.  If they buy it just because it has a certain name, that's materialistic.  If they can't afford it and buy it, then that's stupid and irresponsible.

All of my comments were pointed towards that mango chick, not fly.  Fly was just fine by me, she was agreeing with our comments the whole time.  I meant to say that like two pages ago, but I had to go shopping instead and buy a shirt for $4.

Yeah, I'm judging me for it too.  I should have tried it o n before spending all that money and now that I have it on at home it shows some serious side boobage that's probably illegal in a few states.
