Valentine's Day/Anniversary

Valentine's Day is coming up pretty quickly!  (It's also my anniversary.)  Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get a guy for this?  I usually make candy boquet's for my boyfriend; however, I have done that for the past few years.  I've also done the coupon book thing...I'm looking for something different!  Guys are so hard to buy for.  Ideas, please!

    Guys love it.  Promise.

    Plus, it's a cost saver.

I agree. Guys are sooo hard to buy for. I always try to think of something that is like 90+% for him, to balance out the girly gifts/favors he gets me. i.e. flowers, candies, and/or romantic dinners... So what is your bf into?

That's the thing that makes it so hard--He's not really "hardcore" into a lot of things.  Sure, he likes sports, playing video games, traveling, but I wouldn't say that there's something he's "really into."  He's pretty laid back and easy to please.  That's why I've gone with the more generic gifts like a candy boquet and that kind of stuff before.  I'm just tired of giving the same kind of thing every year!

Although Audgie's suggestion would probably go over pretty well. lol

Oh, you posted at the same time. Well, let's see...

One year I gave DH a Netflix subscription. He loved that. We still have it.

One year I bought lingerie for myself. That worked great! He's all about new lingerie.

I am thinking of getting him an in-game minipet for World of Warcraft this year, along with a cake from the bakery that made our wedding cake and a bottle of the champagne we drank at the reception.

Can't remember other years... hmm... new video games or game points always do well with DH. Food is a huge hit, too. He loves food.

That's all I got. Also, check out www.thinkgeek.com and see if anything there strikes you as something he'd be into.

BF and I usually make dinner together. His birthday is a week before Valentine's Day (its tomorrow!) so we usually don't do presents because between Christmas, Valentine's Day and his birthday its all just too much.

Rent a hotel room for the night, get some candles, a bottle of champagne, some chocolate syrup, whipped cream, some handcuffs or scarves to tie him to the bed and an outfit that you can pull off very slowly piece by piece and killer heels that end up being the only thing you have on - what guy can resist?

Ooooh, we don't do Valentines, but now I really can't wait until BF's birthday!

    and candy :)

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day, and for our anniversary we just go out to eat. We don't give gifts except for Christmas and birthdays. It's much less pressure that way. I'm quite happy to enjoy his company over a delicious meal. Soo...I'm kind of useless. Maybe he's having a hard time coming up with a gift as well, and maybe you'd both rather skip that this year...

Yeah, lingerie. The only problem with it, if you want something that looks really good, you have to be willing to pay a few bucks. How in the world did I not think of this sooner?? So happy I read the boards! Haha.

Why not plan a day out filled with activities or take him to the zoo, aquarium, whatever you have in town?

BF took me to this really cool place that had go karts, all kinds of games, and stuff for our anniversary and then took me to a really nice dinner. Definitely one of the best dates we had, we got to act like kids and then dress up and have a fancy date.

@Elle-Family guy may just be the best show ever.

"Well a bird bird bird, a bird is the word. Hey have you heard about the bird? Everybody's heard about the bird!"

Have fun gettting that out of your head.

Sometimes doing different activities is a bit hard if you're low on cash. Oh, I just remembered (duh), and this is pretty cheap, and a little corny depending on your view. On our first anniversary, I bought a box & wood letters & glued his name on the box. Then inside was a little piece of paper for every day of the year on why I love him. I also added on each piece ways to say "I love you" in different languages.

(...Omg. Stupid bird is the word...everytime my BF & I see that Family Guy episode, he loves to sing it a few times after just to make sure it's pretty well stuck in my head! Grrr.)

We don't buy gifts for Valentine's day. I second someone else's idea of tickets for an event you can go to together - concert tickets, whatever.

Follow the event with the other suggestions of BJ and anal for a sure win.

Our 6 month anniversary is one week before Valentine's Day so I understand your dilemma.  For our anniversary I made up a photo album of pictures of us from the past 6 months and for Valentine's Day I am going to make him a card and I think bake him a huge chocolate chip cookie with 'I love you' written in icing.  I had a hard time thinking of something too.  My BF's birthday is also in the next month so I will need to think of something else yet!

Think about what kind of things you guys like to do together and dedicate the whole weekend or week (if possible in terms of work schedule and money). One thing that I am doing with BF is going to do wine tasting the whole weekend (some Thursday and Friday) in the middle of nowehere, but that will be done in April or May (don't advise to do it now). Just giving an example of something to do that will bring the two of you together.

I am also not sure what to do about Valentine's day since my boss might send me out of town at any moment in the next week and not be back until I'm not sure when, which might mean, no Valentine's Day with BF. Not sure at whom I should be pissed: Boss or Costumer, since our Costumer told us to be there last minute.

Have any of you ever had to spend Valentine's without SO unexepectantly?

Mzm, TBH my BF and I have never spent Valentine's Day together. For the past few years I've gone to Florida, and this is the first year I'll be here on V-Day, but we just can't spend it together so we're celebrating on the Saturday instead.

I'm getting my BF a gift card to Victoria's Secret or Fredericks, that way he can pick me out something nice that gets him excited because he is always trying to pick out lingerie for me.

mzm- This is the first year that I won't be with my BF to celebrate V-day :(  BOO to long distance! BOOOOO!!!!!!
