Nerdy tendencies

My favorite vacation relaxation time includes reading books about the biomechanics of sex, hormonal regulations, the Journal of Nursing, and cookbooks (from cover to cover).

I'm getting my PhD in bacteriology.
I love the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (the books, not just the movies) and The Hobbit.
    I also love Harry Potter.
I know 16 digits of Pi by heart.

-Some of my favorite books are The Mists of Avalon, The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, and all of the HP series. When the seventh HP came out, i got it at midnight sat down and was finished with it by five in the morning.
In case you can't tell, I absolutely love to read.
-One of my favorite shows is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. I am currently on season 5 of Buffy and about to start season 6.

Call me a nerd, I dare you. I'll kick your ass in my five inch heels with my blonde highlights. Who says girly girls can't be nerds as well?

I absolutely love Harry Potter and Twilight. I will read almost any book about vampires. I also love to read those trashy romance novels. It's a guilty pleasure.

I'm obsessed with Harry Potter.  I've even read the series in Spanish.

I own a shirt that says "Got DNA?" courtesy of IDT.

I do my brother's college physics homework for fun.  I asked him to let me.

I took the SAT last year, just to see how I would do.

Speaking of the SAT, I've scored at or above the 90th percentile in 5 different standardized tests.

When bored, I do logic puzzles on the computer.  The grid kind.

TRY to find a crossword puzzle I can't finish.  I dare you.

I'm not really nerdy I suppose. I love to read, and I do well in school, but I'm not certain I'd classify as 'nerdy'.  Actually, I suppose this is a little nerdy. If I have homework, I'll bring it with to a party and actually get it done.  That is pretty lame, and nerdy I suppose.

FI is extremely nerdy and I love it! In his free time he built a lightening detector that counts how many times lightning strikes and finds it. It's awesome, but nerdy.

I pretty much always have my nose in a book. I also carry one where ever I go in my purse (FYI, carrying HP around everywhere sucks. lol).

I <3 Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars.

    I play Magic and Warhammer.

I love smart TV shows like Bones, Law and Order, ect. I'm also a huge fan of Buffy.

I can recite the entire balcony monologue from "Romeo & Juliet" - in under 12 seconds.

I can recite the "to be or not to be" soliloquy.

I asked for a book called "Cross Cultural Dialogues" for a Christmas gift - and was delighted when I got it!  Anything about cross cultural communication, I eat up like it's chocolate pie.

I took the SATs when I was 12 years old and was offered admission into college - my parents figured I'd be socially awkward if I went that young.

I used to skip ahead in logic and algebra class in school.  I got in trouble for not paying attention, when I was doing problems from the last chapter since I was bored.  I got pulled into the principal's office after a few of these incidences, and my Mom thought it was hilarious and stupid - what kind of kid goofs off in class by doing extra work?  And what kind of teacher punishes a child for teaching themselves the material?

My degree is in Mathematics and Statistics... minor in Econ

I call the software developers nerds, as in whenever I see them walking outside I yell "NERD ALERT".  I see the people at my work having a heirearchy of nerd-dom.
I have a rediculous memory... FI has learned this the hard way.  Work hates me for this, but it come in handle when they forget what and why we do things.

I like ordering things, and I'm probably slightly OCD.  I also go in after FI puts dishes away to fix things...

I think learning about the human body is one of the most fascinating things. There are so many actions that take place on a daily basis that we don't even consider!  I really like learning about hormones, too. How can something so tiny be responsible for so much?! Sometimes I think it would be cool to have a career in medicine, but I'm way too squeamish to handle it.

I'm exactly the same way, calindi!  I got in trouble for skipping ahead in English all the time.

I love books.  I can never seem to stop reading.  My chem teacher in high school actually burned one of my books in a bunsen burner because he wanted me to stop reading.

I play WoW too.  The boyfriend got me into it, and he's the type to play with a calculator next to the computer, so how could I not be all dorky about it?

BF and I also geek out about psych stuff all the time.  When we see babies, we always try to guess their age based on psyical development and language.

I can memorize number and letter combinations like it's nobody's business. However, since most people are creeped out when I memorize their phone number and address in 5 seconds.... I rarely advertise that.

I was in a chess club in jr high. I can still kick anyone's ass in chess.

I built a rocket in 4th grade in "the rocket club" with all the 6th grade boys. It actually flew.

My senior year in high school I actually studied for and attended both physics and calculus camp.

I also used to skip ahead in math because I was so bored. Everyone always asked me for help. When girl who picked on me asked me for help, I gave her the wrong help and she did bad on a test.

I also have to rearrange the dishwasher when the roommate screws it up, because it has to make sense. On that note, BF let me rearrange the kitchen to my liking because I thought the way he did it did not make logical sense. (Who puts glasses in the same cupboard as the seasonings and canned goods??)

Wow, I now feel like way less of a nerd, but in a different way:

-I enjoy telling kids cool things about fish when I go to the aquarium.  If I'm standing at a tank and a kid walks up and says "Look at the fishies" I have to say "Do you see that one there...it does...blah blah blah", and I once got in a fight with a kid about a fish at an aquarium.  He kept trying to say it was fake, and I was very insistent that it wasn't.  It ended when FI pulled me away and said "Get it together, he's 8"

-I have a shark shirt that I got at the American Elasmobranch Society meeting last year

-I love ecology.  I love telling people about ecology.  But I love the water best, and so that's where most of my knowledge is.

I love anything related to child development and the brain. I was a psych major in college and I'm working on school psychology masters now and I plan to return to school and get my Psy.D in clinical psychology and open my own practice focusing on children. I'm also currently obsessed with art therapy and sand therapy!

I also love love love reading and was always getting in trouble for reading during classes in school. It always irritated me when people read slowly or read easy books slowly... mainly because I was reading at college level when I was in 4th grade...

I also love the Harry Potter series and I just re-read them all in about a week... yay for reading!

First... I'm loving this post and enjoying everyone's nerdy tendencies.

Second...I'm jealous of all your ladies memorization skills. I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was 17, and not only do I switch numbers and letters around, I have a really hard time memorizing things because EVERYTHING gets jumbled in my head.

That being said, I was so smart as a child, I was able to compensate for my learning disability, so it wasn't diagnosed until I was 17.

I was in "SEEK" as a child. This was our gifted program. My IQ is over 150. My brother and I fight over who is smarter.

We had to do science fair in 7th grade. I did it in 6th grade, for "practice" and in 8th grade because it was "so much fun the year before". I was awarded top honors in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at our school. In 7th and 8th grade I went to regionals and got top honors. In 8th grade I went to state and got top honors.

I don't get any magazines in the mail (okay, now I get bridal ones), instead I ask people to get me journal subscriptions (I'm a poor PhD candidate, I can't afford journals).

I was in a midieval live action role playing organization when I was in middle school/high school.

I dressed up as Sailor Moon for fun in high school and college (and for Halloween).

I own an accordian and took lessons.

I am a huge fan of Gone with the Wind...movie and book!

I can recite all the helping verbs..I learned this in seventh grade and it stuck.

I read the dictionary sometimes...I'll be looking up a word and I get lost in allll the others. (I guess I'm an English major for a reason)

I'd rather look something up in an Encyclopedia or any book than search for it online.

I love writing papers to critically analyze a piece of literature...Favorite thing EVER! (Well, favorite thing in school!)

Well, I do read a lot.

I LOVE Star Wars SO much. My family and I have lightsaber duels.

I've seen every James Bond movie.

Politics is like candy to me- BF sometimes ask me these really random political questions because he says he likes to see me get all excited over it. I don't even need to be debating, I even like explaining things to people. And I get so frustrated when people tell me that "politics is boring" and doesn't apply to them- SO not true! Politics really does cover so many different topics. I especially adore the history of political thought (particularly ancient political thought).

I roleplay Cthulhu games on Friday nights.

ETA: I was also on the debate team in highschool. And I was good. I went to provincials to compete as well.

When the first movie was released (I was 16), I swore up and down that I wasn't going to watch the movies because I was afraid they would change my perception of the books.  I could picture everything so clearly, and I knew that the movies wouldn't match my vision...

Yeah... I held out for a week after Sorcerer's Stone was released before I went to the theater to see it.  LOL.  At the end of the day, I simply found it interesting to see another person's view of the books.  I find that when I read the books even today, I still picture everything the way I did when I first read them.

I learned HTML and CSS when I was eight. I used to make "profiles" for fellow neopet users. I played neopets for a very, very, long time. In fact I used my first debit card to buy the premium version until my boyfriend told me it was far too expensive and unecessary.

I'd always get in trouble for staying up past my bed time and reading. I was either reading books for school or books that would be considered odd for someone of that age... I read a book of true accounts of Muslim women under Taliban rule when I was ten.

I still read ahead in my school books, but then I struggle to remember the small details.

I went to Engineering Camp in middle school and highschool. I'm a History major now :P
...speaking of that, History gives me boners. Midieval History, Revolutionary America, 19th Century America, 20th Century Europe...

I play video games. PC Video Games. Counter Strike 1.6, L4D, Tf2.
