Odd. Your earlier statement seemed to be using the fact that people could always check 'no' as a justification.
At any rate, just because 'thousands of brides' do something doesn't make it not rude. Thousands of brides invite people to pre-wedding parties when those guests are not invited to the wedding. Doesn't make it appropriate. ;)
