My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

This show disgusts me but I cannot stop watching it. I'm catching up on episodes right now.
Why do these girls (even the LITTLE GIRLS) dress and dance like whores??! And yet they're devout Catholics.
Someone please explain this to me.
I know you can't judge a whole culture of people based on a TV show but this show makes this culture look pretty effed up.

Gypsies are very much discriminated against and oppressed. I wouldn't judge them based on a t.v. show that is obviously meant to exploit them. If you would actually like to learn about their culture there are significantly better ways to do so than a crappy t.v. show.

I do find that show quite interesting.  Most people who go to the club dance like "whores" so to speak.  That's kind of how a lot of hip-hop/club dancing is.  As for the outfits, I believe they said in last nights episode that they dress like that to get the guys attention.  It makes sense.

I felt really bad when they showed them tearing down the communities where they live.  That was really sad.

Most people that go to the clubs are not 7 year olds- these are communion parties with children dancing like this! It's disgusting. It is sad to watch these peoples' homes destroyed but I believe they live there illegally. I want to know how these people get their money to throw these lavish parties.

Actually, a lot of young children do dance like that because they are emulating what they see in videos

I saw it too. I think the people that they interview attribute it to the fact that the girls feel like they have to get married before they stale at age 20/21/22. So, they learn to be overtly sexual to get someone to choose them...?

Your intolerance is disgusting. If you want to know how they earn a living do some research, look into it. National Geographic just did a spotlight on Gypsies this month. Their website has some valuable information. <a href="http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0104/feature4/media2.html" rel="nofollow">http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0104/feature4/media2.html</a>

I'm not saying their culture is perfect and I wouldn't allow my children to behave that way but your posts are coming off as EXTREMELY judgmental of a culture you know very little about. You cannot judge other cultures based on the standards of your own and you certainly shouldn't judge them based off a t.v. show.

I already stated I know you cannot judge the whole culture on the show. I've read some things online by people that claim to be gypsies and are really dissapointed in the way the show makes their culture seem. I'm not intolerant of their culture I'm saying the way they let these young girls on the show behave is gross. I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

According to the show - those girls remain virgins until they are married and don't even kiss a guy.  They showed an episode of guys "grabbing" wherein they grab a girl and try to steal a kiss.  So their virtue/morality seems to be very strict.

That being said, I have no idea where they get their sense of style?!  Their outfits are quite garish, to say the least.  They certainly do like things over the top.  As for dressing in very skimpy outfits, I don't know how that fits in with such a strict sense of morality.  One would think that if you're trying to be a "good girl" you would keep the goodies under wraps....Sealed

All in all - it's a very interesting group of people and it's totally fascinating to watch.  It's a different culture and to each his own.  Live and let live.  It's very sad to see them persecuted - the episode where their caravans were bulldozed for no good reason was very sad.
