Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

winter wedding ceremony

Hello,

I just started planning my wedding and I know that my wedding will be taking place in the winter sometime. I won't be able to have an outdoor ceremony since it will be winter. I am wondering if anyone had any ideas about where I could have the ceremony if I want to have a non-denominational wedding (so no church).

Thanks,
Alexia

  • You'll get more specific responses if you post on your local board

For some generic ideas, try hotel banquet rooms, ball rooms, theatres, country/golf clubs, things of that nature.
  • You could try museums, galleries, historic homes, country clubs, nice restaraunts, and wineries (these often have indoor spaces).

  • Our venue had a ceremony room.  Maybe yours does as well.

  • Hi! I am getting married in January 2014 and we are a secular couple. We are getting married in a museum, where we have been allowed to rent a whole floor with many different galleries. The floor includes a large space for the ceremony and many mingling spaces as well. We are not having a formal sit-down dinner, rather a cocktail party, for our reception. Most all museums, whether it be art, history, or fossil-based, can accomodate a wedding and will usually have a list of caterers and other resources ready for you. My venue is actually kind of a one-stop shop, with people available to hire for catering, entertainment, officiating, cake, bar, photography, and beyond. The only thing I couldn't buy from them was my dress!! Message me for more info on how to get a deal on something like this, or recommendations on a museum - I am an exhibit designer, so I have some pretty good insider knowledge :)
  • Ps this place is really cool, in Providence:

  • A church wedding wouldn't be for us either so we are getting married in Seattle's first hotel.  We wanted a super small wedding, so it was kind of difficult finding a venue that wasn't too big.  I  found most hotels I looked at had rooms of varying sizes.
  • Most indoor reception sites can also include a ceremony, you'll just have to hire or find a local officiant to perform it. My wedding is at a restaurant that normally does just receptions, but they also have a ceremony set-up option available for folks like us who want everything at the same place. Good luck and best wishes! Jennifer
