Weekend?

Good morning! I said this in the accountability thread but does anyone else think this short week feels like a double week? The last 3 days felt like they'd never end!

Well, it's finally Friday at least. What's everyone doing this weekend?

Tomorrow, FI and I are going to look at suits for him for the wedding, I have a date with the gym, and we're going to dinner with FI's stepdad and his brother.

Sunday, I was supposed to go to brunch with my MOH but she had to cancel so I will probably get up and go to the gym and then have a lazy day on the couch with FI and the babies :)

PS. I'm down to 4 months today! I can't believe it. I had a hard time falling asleep last night, I was just laying there with my eyes open thinking of the stupidest things (like where FI is sleeping the night before the wedding -- I have no clue, but I don't need to worry about it right.this.second.). I hope it was a one-time thing because I really like my sleep. Sigh.

YES. Any week where we have to cram five days of patients into four days is a HORRIBLE week.

Tonight, I'm going wedding dress shopping with my mom at the Brides Against Breast Cancer VIP dress sale. I'm picking her up from work because although she feels comfortable driving between home and work, she doesn't feel safe driving anywhere else because she's not able to turn her head to look around. She has an appointment with her oncologist today, however, so I'm hoping that she'll be on the path to recovery soon.

Tomorrow, I'm going back to the same Brides Against Breast cancer thing minus the VIP. This time, however, I'm going with a group of coworkers because another one is getting married and I'm in her bridal party. It should be a lot of fun and maybe we'll get to hookah afterwards or something.

Sunday, I'm going with the same group of chicks to my first bridal show because I've heard they're absolutely hilarious. I can't wait, hahaha.

Monday is payday. I'm looking forward to that a lot :|.

  • Yay for 4 months! This week has felt extra long for some reason and my sleep hasn't been good since BF has been sick most of the week. I was up late too because I just had to finish this book. Sigh.....

We have no weekend plans, BF has a pretty bad cold so depending how he feels we may go out to eat or head over to the mall for some shopping.. we'll see. Otherwise the plan is to sleep in and relax.

So anyone have a good book reccomendations? I'm done with Game of Thrones until the new book comes out.

Any good recipes using butternut squash that you like?

Good morning! This week has felt weird for sure.

Yay for suits! Re: the night before: I was just chatting with a BM about how I asked all of them to stay at the hotel with me the night before. I had thought that seemed a bit juvenile and demanding when I first considered it, but then when it came down to the weeks before I knew it was what I wanted. They all did it with smiles, and I didn't make them pay for a hotel room or anything. And I'm super glad I had them with me first thing in the morning on the wedding day. Gosh I miss those girls.

I'm listening to Mindy Kaling's book and loving it. I just finished The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. All good reads, IMO. But not new titles....

H did a butternut squash pizza the other day that was good.

I am meeting Tiger tomorrow! I hope she likes me. We also have plans to get together with some other couples, and celebrating my BIL's bday. I cannot wait to weekend again!
  • H just stayed home by himself the night before, and drove himself to the venue to meet up with his GMs. He said it was really lonely. I told him he should've had a sleepover like me. ;)

Jen- Have fun with Tiger! I'm jealous,

Wow butternut squash on pizza sounds good, was there cheese on it?

There are a few book choices I'm considering- Let's Pretend This Never Happened, The Casual Vacany, My Sister's Keeper, Gone Girl and The Red Rain ( the new RL Stine book). Has anyone read any of these?

We always use cheese. I'm actually trying to recall what type it was, and what else was on that one... And I can't.

I read the Casual Vacancy and would recommend it.

    I cry every.single.episode. I freakinlovethatshow!
  • Liv - where are you in Breaking Bad? BF got me into it right when we started dating - it's such a great show.

Danser - My Sister's Keeper was great - It had me in tears. I also saw the movie in theaters with my mom and little sister, and at one point, all you heard was EVERYONE IN THE THEATER CRYING. Like - sobbing. And my mom was crying too, but I guess she found the situation funny, so she burst out laughing. Awkward.

Gone Girl was great as well - I resisted reading it at first, because of all the hype, but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.

Tiger - I looooooooove Parenthood. It's one of very few shows that I will never miss an episode of. Are you watching this week's episode? Yeah, I cried too (but I do almost every week, so...nothing new there.)

Anyways, YAY FRIDAY. I'm hoping to make my 3rd sale in 3 days, which would get me off to an awesome start this month. Not much planned for this weekend, other than going to play ping pong at Spin NYC with BF tonight, and then out for some (more) drinks. I need to find Kaya a new harness this weekend, so we'll probably take her to Petco tomorrow and then to the dog park. Monday night we have her first puppy class!

Then.... just one full week of work, and the Monday and Tuesday after that, and then we'll be flying to Jamaica super early Wednesday morning. I can't wait. Best of all - I JUST realized that the day after we get back is MLK day, so I get off of work that day too.

[QUOTE]As I said in the other thread, yes, this week has been neeeeeeverending. So happy today is Friday. Tonight I am forcing B to help me put together my new desk I bought from Bed Bath and Beyond. I have only a tiny space to put one the way I configured my study area, so I got one of these: I'm going to get a little ottoman/poof to use as a chair and I think it will look really cute. I'm hoping that while we're at putting together my desk (which should go together in about 2 seconds flat...it just NEEDS two people because it's too wobbly to do with one person) we'll be inspired to FINALLY put together the last of my IKEA furniture, a big bookcase for the same study. Other than that, I'll be cooking steaktips and we'll be watching Breaking Bad. Saturday we don't have any plans as of yet but I need to get some more things done around the house and we'll probably take the pups to the dog park if it's not too frigid. I also have to try to find Ty a new winter jacket because he hates his and these temperatures are really too cold for him to go out without anything. We'll probably also watch more Breaking Bad. Sunday we are going to B's neice's birthday party, and I'm going for a wine or coffee date at some point in the day with my friend Jamie. I'm hoping a nap will also be somewhere in the day.

  • RDR: I definitely recommend staying with some girls. I did not the night before my wedding, and it was AWFUL. Granted, I was sick and got about 2 hours of sleep, but I doubt that would have happened if I had some of my BMs there at the hotel. H stayed at our apartment by himself and drove to the church.

This week was double-long, as was last week. I have no idea what day it is!

No weekend plans here, really. We need to "fix" our washer, which we learned has an issue (no spinning) all of a sudden. And there will be some errands, and maybe, just maybe we can figure out our damn wedding album photos.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.
  • I love RL Stine growing up too, so it's on my to read list. All of the books I mentioned will get read it's just a matter of what order.

I saw the movie My Sister's Keeper it was sad. I heard the book a little different though. I'll take the weekend to decide.

  • Good morning, ladies.

Rdr- I used to lay awake thinking about wedding stuff all the freaking time. For the record, DH slept at a groomsman's apartment and I slept at ours and my MOH stayed over with me.

Danser - I haven't tried this veggie lasagna recipe, but I think it looks awesome and I'm thinking you could replace the pumpkin with roasted butternut squash:

As for me, tonight I'm going with 4 of my girlfriends to see the first Hobbit movie. . . FINALLY! I'm excited!!

Tomorrow morning I have to run to Target to pick up a gift for a baby shower. Afternoon is said baby shower (procrastination is my middle name). In the evening DH and I are going to a bar to watch the Packers game. . . I really hope they win.

Sunday is cleaning our guest bedroom, as it looks like an episode of Hoarders in there, and watching more football. I will probably have to come to the lab briefly on both days too. Boo.
  • This week has been never ending even though it was only a 3 day week. I am exhausted. Work has been nothing short of crazy. I work at a library on the electronic access side of things and the start of the year is subscription renewal time. We had a vendor cash one of our checks but forget to credit our account so we lost access. It makes me want to scream.

This weekend I am going wedding dress shopping and to a wedding expo with one of my bridesmaids. Sunday I am just hanging out with FI. Monday is my birthday, so I will probably try to convince FI to let me open presents early.

RDR- I bet the next 4 months fly by!

Liv - I think that desk is a very cute idea!! I might steal it for our home office space.

this week has seemed very long. I'm frustrated this morning because I had to buy 2 books for my Accounting class this semester, which cost me $170 and $240... plus tuition is due in 2 weeks (another $325)... and this morning, we got our first reduced paychecks (higher health care costs and the 2% increase). so I am kind of DOWN this morning about it. I'm just praying that our mortgage doesn't go up too much this year because of property taxes.

anyway, I'm in charge of figuring out dinner tonight. we can go out or stay in. any ideas? I'm thinking about going to our favorite little Mexican place, but open to other options.

  • Danser I made a butternut squash soup a couple days ago that was delicious and it was vegan. I adapted it from my aunt's non-veg recipe.

Preheat oven to 350. Cut squash in half and remove the seeds. Brush with olive oil and salt and pepper then bake until fork tender (the recipe said 30 minutes and up, mine was closer to an hour). Once baked, remove the skin and cut the squash into chunks. In a blender combine 1 tsp veggie bouillon, 1 cup water, and about half of the squash. Blend until smooth. Repeat with another 1 tsp bouillon, water and remaining squash. Combine pureed squash in a sauce pan over medium heat with a splash or two of soy milk (the original recipe called for a block of cream cheese, but since I am lactose intolerant I had to substitute. Plus I wanted it to healthier). Season to taste. I added a bit of salt and pepper, some garlic powder and ginger. It was the perfect cold weather soup.

Tiny Furniture is a film the the star/creater of Girls directed and also starred in. It's kinda wierd, but similar to Girls in some ways (the girl that plays Jessa is in it too). What's really cool about it is that Lena Dunham's mother and sister play themselves, and their apartment in the film is the mother's apartment in real life.

The show recieved criticism because all of the main characters had some "connections", so some people said they weren't necessarily talented, they just knew the right people. For instance - the girl who plays Marnie is Brian WIlliam's daughter. Also, a lot of people said that the show is "too white", especially taking place in NYC.

Heather - the soup recipe sounds so good! It reminds me of a recipe I made a few years back. I did the cubed butternut squash and baked some green apples as well and then did the puree. I never went back to it because cutting butternut squash was such a pain, but now I found it precubed in Trader Joe's. The squash is a lot easier to cube once it has been baked. I didn't even really cube it, I just sort of scooped it off the skin with a spoon. Now I want to try it with some apple added.

  • Hi girls! I know, I know, I fell off the face of the earth for a week or so, BUT my sister is all off and married now, so I had a good reason to :)

rdr, most of us girls just stayed at my parents' house the night before the wedding. It worked out lovely. The boys went out and stayed in the hotel (mainly because his parents don't live anywhere near they got married.) It was a lot of fun.

The only thing not so fun? Every.single.one. of my relatives asking BF & I if we were next. Actually, I'm pretty sure we're NOT next guys. But thanks for letting us know you're psyched. And omg, stop planning our wedding cause it isn't even officially happening yet!

My family loves us, it's obvious, but they're insane :) All of them.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Weekend? : The squash is a lot easier to cube once it has been baked. I didn't even really cube it, I just sort of scooped it off the skin with a spoon. Now I want to try it with some apple added.

I never thought to do it that way. I tried cooking butternut squash back when my cooking skills were rather novice. I'll have to try that though :-) I'm making acorn squash tonight and I can't wait.

Rdr- I hope your girls stay with you too. I also did the same thing about my wedding. I would just lay there and freak out. lol

Danser- I am reading Atonement right now, so far it's good.

Blue- That is cute that your family is so excited for you!

This weekend will be busy. Today I am going to coffee with a friend. Then I need to start reupholstering my chair. I am nervous because I have never done it before but I hope it works out. It might carry over into tomorrow.

Tomorrow is get everything else done day. I have a few things left over from my list, like mop the kitchen floor so time to buckle down. Also I need to get set up for school.

Sunday we are going up the hill to our hometown. We are going to church and then Christmas Eve service. Sadly we can't go to the Christmas day service because school starts on Monday :(
