Raffle Basket Ideas

One of my good friend's (and first kiss) past away in 2004 from cancer. Each year, his family does a fundraiser in his honor and this years proceeds are going to another local teen with cancer. A friend and I are thinking of making a few baskets for the raffle and needed some ideas.

My only idea right now is for a margarita basket or similar.

Type up a letter about your friend and what happened to him as well as the teen that the proceeds will actually be going to and then take them in person to businesses, local business tend to give more to smaller hometown "charities" like these.  However, if the cause is registered as a non-profit then many larger corporations will also give... usually in the form of giftcards, which you can either put those in the basket or turn around and use them to buy things to build your own basket.

Some of the baskets that I've seen do well...

    SPA BASKET
Any kind of gift certificate for a spa service (Massage, Mani-Pedi, Facial) then put it in a basket with a nice robe and some slippers.  (Many salons will gladly give a couple free services as long as their name is promoted somewhere... signage, announcer etc)

    CAR CARE BASKET
A certificate for a whole car cleaning or a book of car washes... put some interior wipes, window wipes and an air freshener inwith it.  (Autozone donated quite a few things to a raffle  that was held for my mother)

    NIGHT IN BASKET
A DVD or two (if movies are not donated use one of the many random giftcards that you recieve to places to purchase), a cift certificate for a free pizza and 2-liter of pop (ask around... most will donate, when you go in mention how much your family, or in this case his family loves that kind of pizza (even if it isn't true).... flattery always helps!

I could go on and on!

FI's family is currently doing a fund raiser for his cousin who has PH Polmonary Hypertension which is incurable and slowly killing her.  They have recieved donations for tons of things ranging from a simple manicure or $25 gift card to somewhere all the way up to $1,000 in teeth whitening and $3,000 worth of orthodontics from a local dentist (who is friends of the family).

Best bets are asking family and friends to get involved in asking for donations... if you have a vested interest in raising money for the cause you are much more likely to get more and better donations.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Wine and cheese basket.

    Golf basket.

Basket with an array of chocolates.

    A season/ holiday themed basket.

I also think you should contact businesses. I have a friend who lives in a suburb NW of Detroit. When her DH was coming home from Iraq she contacted local resturaunts for food donations for the welcome home party. She got a ton of stuff!

Movie night seems to be a big hit from the other posts...my take on a movie basket is to get 2-3 of the "older" movies (think Walmart's $5 bin), 2-3 bags of microwave popcorn (also get some popcorn containers - either bags or find some of the hard reusable containers - I found some for my mom at the dollar store), some bags/boxes of movie candy and some tissues if you put in some really sappy love stories.

A gardener's basket would be nice, too - garden gloves, a small spade/shovel, lots of seed packets and some starters pots - you could decorate the basket with artificial versions of the flowers in the seed packets.

A tea lovers basket - get a couple nice tea cups (check out the thrift stores for some vintage looking tea cups) and get a variety of celestial seasonings or some loose tea with tea balls, include a mix for scones (I have a couple books that have directions for making mixes in jars if you want to go that route, just let me know)

Make some baskets that are kid themed, too - people might want something fun for the kiddies...
-a magic basket (the dollar trees in this town have tons of magic kits)
-a race car basket (contact Michigan Speedway - you might be able to get merchandise from their gift shop to put in there), if not, go down the diecast/hotwheels aisle at the store and fill up the basket

-a barbie doll basket for girls (or my little pony if we're sticking to the theme of this board)

I'd better stop now, that should give you a few ideas.

Thanks Ladies! I'm going to talk to my friend and see if she has some sort of official letter written up.

We did raffle baskets for a fundraiser at the school I taught in last year. Some of the popular ones were Crafting (ie. scrapbooking supplies, various stickers, etc.) and a Men's basket (men's bodycare products, magazines, car/truck cleaners, movies such as the Godfather...) which I know seems sexist but it went over really well.
