If you're bored....

I'm spending this morning researching our lodging for Colorado.  We want to stay in or around Estes Park.  I can't decided what kind of lodging I want though... a cabin in the mountains, a great lodge, a B&B, a great hotel...I just don't know!  I went over our budget and the costs yesterday and it's not going to be as near as expensive as we had first thought, so we have a little extra $$ for some great lodging.

So, yeah, if you're bored and feel like it... help me find a place!!

I've looked at the first one several times... I do like that mountain valley home one though...   I've looked at so many different places I feel like my head is about to spin off!

I just can't decide what I want and most of these places I'm looking at seem so out-dated...

You need to remember where you are going. It's going to be country chic, not super modern. What do YOU want?   I think that you are going to wind up outdated no matter what, that's just the feel there. But I think you need to have someone to wait on you. Lemme see if I can find photos of my honeymoon suite, talk about outdated!

I spend a lot of time in Estes.  Hetshup is dead-on.  If you think quaint and cozy (all of it- town, restaurants, lodging) you'll be very happy.

The major differences usually are proximity to park (usually more secluded-e.g. the Romantic River place is less than a mile from the park entrance therefore further from town- 3 miles-ish) vs. proximity to "town" (read: cute little shops mostly on Elkhorn Ave.).

The Mountain Valley place is in a kind of weird place for tourists- not near the park or town, but still in a neighborhood.  That may be weird.

Ok, I'm bored. That's a good thing - means I feel well enough to bother being bored. I should be working, but this looks like more fun.

Romantic River Song place - I kind of like it. Stay away from the rocking bed suite though. No need to end up in the hospital on your honeymoon.

Mountain Valley Home - Love it! I agree with pp - part of the decor is because of the location and part is because they are bed and breakfasts and not resorts or hotels.

Have you done B&Bs before? I feel like I SHOULD like them. They totally match my personality. But I can't get comfortable in them. I feel like I'm a house guest and I don't particularly like staying in someone else's home. BF hates staying in someone's home. So although they seem so romantic and peaceful, they just don't work for me. Very small inns have the same affect on me.

ETA: this place looks cool!!! http://www.maryslakelodge.com/
One other point - some family members are coming with you, right? In a B&B or small inn, noise might carry... Embarassed

Stanley Hotel is great!  Just still keep quaint in your mind- it's not modern or super-fancy.  I know they say it's supposed to be luxurious but it's main advantages are view and history.  Granted I've never seen their suites.

I'd totally stay there if it were me!

LOL I guess you ARE bored paint!  I'm really loving The Stanley - with all it's history and everything, just looks like an awesome place!  And I think I'd suprise FI with the "Ghost Tour" - he's really into that sort of thing and would totally love it....as creepy as it sounds.. hah.

I have done B&B's before, but only on girlfriends weekends.  I loved it for that sort of thing but I'm not totally sure if I'd love the B&B setting with FI.  Does that sound weird?

No it doesn't sound weird. The noise thing would bother me with bf there. :) I will be a house guest in some cases by myself, but with bf we are definitely uncomfortable. Odd I know - and these aren't ultra-conservative hosts that would be weird about us sleeping in the same room.
