Rock audition song

Hi ladies!

My dance school is having auditions for a rock/vampire themed show next month. I don't think I'm a good enough dancer to try for a dance role, but I do want to audition for a singing part. They're looking for a rock or power ballad songs.

I'm going to assume that I need to wow them in about 30 seconds, so I'm trying to pick something where I can just jump in (e.g. start at the chorus).

My initial thoughts are "Whisper" or "Call Me When You're Sober" by Evanescence. I think they'd fit well with the theme, and I do well on the belting style. I'm open to other suggestions, too.

I think one of the hundred songs named "Gone" or "Gone Away" - I'm specifically thinking Kelly Clarkson or The Offspring, haha.

Two totally different styles.  I think maybe they kinda fit with the theme - obviously Kelly (or the two you mentioned above) would fit better with "singing" as opposed to "yelling" :)

I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

Every time I hear the word ballad I think of Sixx AM. One of their songs may work for you.

Oooh I love finding people audition songs! One time a friend used one of my song suggestions for a Spring Awakening tour audition and it got her a callback.

I think "power ballads" and I think classic rock:
    Black Velvet - Alannah Miles
Alone or Magic Man - Heart
Faithfully or Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' or Oh Sherrie - Journey
Two Out of Three Ain't Bad or Hot Summer Night - Meat Loaf
Because The Night - Patti Smith
    Crybaby - Janis Joplin

That's all I can think of right now.

Ooh, I like bside's suggestion of Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'!

Belting/power ballads aren't really my area, though, so I'm having trouble coming up with other ideas...hmm...break a leg, in any case!

    Thought of two more!

We Belong or Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benetar

I like doing this! Does anyone else need help finding an audition song? =D I just had to give up my hopes of auditioning for the Rent revival this week so I'm in an auditioning mood.

I thought the same way as Bside! I always think classic rock when I hear the term "power ballad." Journey automatically came to mind with Faithfully, but I also like the suggestion of Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' and Black Velvet.

Maybe Call Me by Blondie as well?

Thanks ladies! I was considering Heart or maybe Pat Benatar "Heartbreaker." Some of the suggestions are great songs, but not right for my range.

Is it bad that I only k now "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" from Glee?  =)

Kelly Clarkson is good, too. Too bad I can't find a karaoke track for "Hear Me."

I love "Call me when you're sober". I was going to suggest and Evanescence song so I say go with that.

I definitely rally in favor of Heart. "Alone" is a very impressive song if done right. I remember Allison Irahita did a cover of it on American Idol and the girl kicked ass.

No, not at all, but they really sped up the song so it would match "Anyway You Want It". The original version is very slow and, well, ballad-y.
