Not Engaged Yet

My boyfriend proposed!!!

Re: My boyfriend proposed!!!

  • Why do the interesting posts always happen when I'm not supposed to be on TK?!

Anyways...OP: I agree with the PPs that you should give the ring back. It is an engagement ring and you obviously don't want to be engaged yet. It sounds like what is really important is that you and your BF get on the same page about where your relationship is going and how he can get help with his addiction.

It sounds like both of you need to work on getting yourselves to a good place before you should move on to getting engaged and married.

Beth I love you. Even to the crazies you always come across so nice. Perhaps it is the Tangled icon you have, but I just read everything in a very soft, sweet manor.

  • Oy.... FACEPALM.. You sound like a twit. Please don't procreate! You say your man needs to straighten his life out but you're the spoiled tease. I think the meanest thing a girl can do is lead a man on. Give the ring back and learn some manners.

  • Apparently Sunday was an interesting day.

OP, give back the ring - if you don't consider yourself engaged, but he does, you're leading him on.  You shouldn't have accepted the ring if you didn't know what you were going to answer, because by accepting it, you essentially said yes.
  • WTF? You didn't give him an answer but you accepted an heirloom ENGAGEMENT ring?  What is wrong with you?

  • Oh hello Monday.

This is full of crazy.  Give him his ring back and get through your issues.

This sounds like trouble to me. I have dated more than my fair share of people who I thought just needed to change one little or ten big thing about themselves and we would ride into the sunset. Here's what I've learned from that: while people may change over the course of their lives, you should never expect or require it. The question is not "would you marry this man if he changed x, y and z?" it's, "would you marry and accept this man as he is right now today?" if you can't answer yes to the second question then I would not suggest getting married, and as such I would not suggest being engaged...and tagging along with that, when he asks you to marry him and gives you a ring, I would not accept it and say yes if you did not consider yourself engaged. There's nothing wrong with not being ready to marry this guy. And there's nothing wrong with not being ready to leave him. But you have to be honest with him and yourself about where you stand, whether or not there's a pretty ring in the balance.

  • Give the ring back or say Yes. But do not say yes unless you are 100% sure you want to be with him. Pill popper or not.

  • Maaaaan.  She didn't even come back.
  • Thanks everyone :)

I had a blonde retard moment there. lol. I was scared. I gave the ring back and told him that we both need to change things in our life and grow more as a couple. Once that happens, he can decide to ask me again and I'll give him a SOLID answer this time. The "yes" will come someday

You did not have a "retard moment".  That's offensive.
