Thanks ladies!  I like the idea of jewelry for my marathon - here's hoping!  Or maybe he just called and asked a question, and they're asking how their customer service was?  That sounds logical, yes?  They wouldn't be so stupid as to email the girl when a boy buys the ring... they've got to be better than that.... right?

My vote is that it is definitely a generic email that gets sent out as a way of encouraging business for Valentine's day. We looked at rings at a large store around here and we'll get generic emails from them along the same lines as yours right around Christmas and Valentine's day.

So, take a breath and repeat to yourself... it's a generic email... no ring until summer...

A little funny story for you, Cate.

We got engaged with a ring from Claire's 'cause the one we picked out wasn't ready yet. After we got back, we started calling the jewelry store to say WTF, where's the ring? The phone number in their records was mine, so when the lady from the store called asking for FI, she was being super cautious to not give away who she was or what she was calling about. Since the number showed up on my phone as the jewelry store, I assured her that I knew exactly what she was calling about and it was okay to tell me. She was really worried about spoiling the surprise.

Honestly, assume it's nothing. Delete that effer and go on about your day. Pretend you never saw it.

That way, even if it's earrings, you'll be surprised and pleased. :)

Haha... funny you said that... as soon as I opened it, I clicked Delete like it was on fire.  Then my palms started sweating, and my heart was racing, so I came on here to have you all talk me down.  Then when I had to quote it for you guys, I had to go fish it out of my deleted folder.  But now I've emptied the deleted folder, so it's gone to the depths of GMail hell.

Costa Rica is one of my fav places in the whole wide world. I'm totally a Wannabe Tica. So when he proposes THIS SUMMER, you have to AW it up like it's your job with planning updates.

He called them and told them to email you. Just to really throw you off.

Or he got you one of those name necklaces. Only this one glows in the dark. And is the size of Flavor Flavs clock.

The "satisfaction" bit could be referring to their customer service or the quality of jewelry they carry.  It was DEFINITELY NOT referring to a ring :)

HOWEVER.....those female gut feelings can be very precise.  If you truly feel it was about a ring, then it just might have been.  Oh the suspense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sit Ubu, sit!  Good dog.

(bonus points to anyone who remembers that show closing and watched in first run, not reruns).

Just had to throw my 2 cents in as well...I got a call a week or so ago saying they were happy to have talked to me at the bridal show and hoped all was well since then and was I ready to set up another appt and go ahead and book them - this was a reception venue.  The bridal show I went to was in August and when I went to the show, it was actually a couple days after I had booked my venue, so I didn't actually talk to any other venues - turns out when you sign up for the bridal show, they give your info to all the vendors - this was the 1st contact I had from this venue (and it was 2 months before my wedding)...so see, it was nothing.

You have a family diamond that you are planning to use right?

If it's still there, then it was nothing. If it is gone, he's starting to plan and you'll have to be patient and pretend like you never saw it.

Personally, I think you should assume it is nothing and don't even check on the diamond.

Oh man, I missed all this fun! Cate, don't freak--I think they're just trying to bring people in for Valentine's Day as PPs have said. I think if it were from a purchase, they'd go on more about it--like, "thank you for your recent purchase. We hope you will enjoy it for years to come" or something.

Angie--isn't that Spin City? Funny show (until MJF left, that is).

Cate-- Don't look for the diamond! This will only fuel the flame of your questioning! If you are going to do anything that is going to bring you near where the diamond is kept, try to avoid it and walk away slowly!

I already know the diamond is gone - that was part of our conversations this weekend.  He's got my great-grandma's ring permanently now, and put it in a safe deposit box.  Technically we both have our names on the safe deposit box and each have a key, but there's no way I'm going near that safe.  So I will just assume it's sitting neatly in the safe.

Wowza, this is getting real!  We were talking about Costa Rica last night, and came to the conclusion that March is a horrible time for his Mom (an accountant), so that wouldn't work.  So bummer on that.  And my parents have told me that they thought we'd all get a LOT of flak from my Dad's family since none of them would be able to go (and they're a very close-knit, co-dependent Irish clan, and I'm the oldest grandchild and will be the first to get married).  Anyway, definite kinks in that plan... sucks.  So maybe he'll wait until summer still?  Since March won't work anyway...

I'm glad that the diamond is in a place that you can't easily get to it. By easily I mean on the top shelf of the linen closet or something like that.  So, stay away from that safe deposit box and you'll be fine. Be sure to enjoy this time Cate!
