Not Engaged Yet

New here!

Good Morning! I just joined today, but have been browsing the site and boards for the past 6 months. My bf and I started talking about engagement/marriage about 6 months ago.

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for not being engaged yet, and probably told to leave the board until I have a ring on my finger, but we've been looking at rings recently, and I've shown him what I like so he has an idea. I'm not really sure when it's going to happen, but I'm guessing it will be sometime soon.

Just wanted to say Hi!

Why would you get flamed for not having a ring on your finger?  Are you planning?  Because if you're PLANNING without being engaged, then yes, you will get flamed.

Hi, my name is Peek and I've been with my BF for roughly 2 months.  And I definitely do not have a ring on my finger.

<div>First, welcome to NEY! </div><div>
</div><div>Second, I'm not sure why anyone thinks they'd be flamed here for not being engaged. That's what the board is for.  People get flamed when they come here & tell us they've planned their wedding when they're <strong>not </strong>engaged & they think that's ok.  That's not ok.  We're a group of women at all stages of life (some are married, engaged, NEY, & some are single) & we talk about things other than weddings which might come as a shock to people.  Please stick around if any of what I've said sounds good to you :) </div><div>
</div><div>My FI & I went the same route as you!  We looked at rings together so I could narrow down what I really liked & he ultimately made the choice.  For us, this was great because I ended up not liking the type of ring I always thought I wanted!</div><div>
</div><div>How old are you & your BF?  Do you have any furbabies?  Favorite TV show?</div>

Posted by peekaboo2011
Hi Peek.

NO, I am NOT planning.  I figure it's not the best idea to get my hopes up with ideas only to have them crushed.  I have been with my bf for 1 1/2 years now and couldn't be happier.

I absolutely LOVE potatoes! I'll eat them Mashed w/gravy (or a big glob of artery clogging butter), baked with butter, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese and a little bit of salt, raw (yes, I eat them raw...yum), home fries, augratin potatoes....any way you can make potatoes, I'll eat them.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

I like wine.  A few years ago, I got into a wine kick and started learning all about it.  My favorites are White Zinfindel (any flavor of it - especially if from Cream Ridge Winery), and rieslings. I would list out each type I have in my fridge (until I get a wine cooler) and wine rack (aka the cabinet next to the fridge) it would be a mile long (well, not really but almost!).

Ick...sushi?! Thanks, but no thanks.  I however, would be willing to try it if I was given REALLY GOOD sushi....but until someone presents me with really good sushi, I stay away from it.
• Hi Welcome!

Have you read Hunger Games?
Do you like Harry Potter?
Favorite Cheese?

• Welcome! My BF and I have also looked at rings. We have a few settings picked out and from there, it's all him. Lots of the women here had input (in varying degrees) on their ring. Totally not flammable.

I also like wine. I prefer red, but it seems like you like whites on the sweeter side. I'd definitely give sauvignon blanc a try. It's my go to in the summers when it's hot as balls here!
• Ok I saw this AFTER I orignally answered, so here we go:

Screen Name: lovebug82510   (I was bowlingchick825 but theknot wouldn't let me on that sn!)
Age: 31
Significant Other's Age: 30 (will be 31 in June)
What You Do: Assistant to the Director of the legal department at a large collection agency for hospitals
What SO Does: Welder/Supervisor at Waste Management
State of Relationship: Committed - living together.
How Long You've Been Together: 1 1/2 years
How You Met: Knew each other in HS (actually have a picture of him from Freshman year!) and reconnected through FB and a local bar near us.
Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): Um, unknown?
Real Babies: I have an almost 11 year old son...no he's not the daddy.
Fur Babies: We have a 2 year old Jack Russell and a 6 month old Great Dane
Loves: Bowling, reading, cooking/baking, cleaning (yes, I love to clean - shocking isn't it?), going to the beach, potatoes, DIY projects.
Hates: people who can't back up their opinions with good reasons. It just irks me!
Pet Peeves: knuckle cracking. I can't stand hearing it!!! OMG!
Hobbies/Activities: bowling, reading, cooking/baking, cross-stitching
Favorite Thing About Your SO: That although he's quiet and semi-affectionate, he still shocks me when he can't keep his hands off me and smothers me with kisses and hugs.
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: That his feet STINK! OMG. I don't really mind it that much but DAMN!
Describe Your Personality: Outgoing but quiet at the same time. Some people think I come off as a snob at first, but once I warm up to you, I can become your best friend. I'm definitely lovable.
Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]): Eh...depends on my mood. Anywhere between a 4 and a 8.
I've Been On TK Since: Today...although I joined a few months ago under a separate SN and for some reason tk didn't want to allow me back on it. Grrrr!
How You Came to Be On TK: The fact that my bf and I were looking at rings and talking about marriage....
How I like my potatoes: Anyway....mashed with gravy or a heeping glob of artery clogging butter, baked w/butter, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese and a little salt, augratin potatoes, raw.
Favorite book/author: Janet Evanovich, Nicholas Sparks
Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I tried to take my dark hair back to my natural color of blonde and turned out looking like a dam tiger.

I can't say that I like or dislike Harry Potter.  If you were to ask my son, he LOVES it.

I sooooo want to go see that.  I have made tentative plans with a good friend of mine in Alexandria, VA to go down and see it with her.  She'd come "home" to NJ but she just found out she's pregnant with her 2nd child and wants to save $$ so they can buy a house and all that jazz.  Hopefully when I get to go down, we'll be able to see it.

If not, we'll hopefully be seeing "The Vow".  Oh how I love that piece of hunky meat.

Those of us that are self-described wine snobs view White Zinfandel as more of a fruit juice than a real wine. Forgive us, it is because we're snobs.

The sugar content in WZ makes it a much lower quality wine than others, and it also does not taste a lot like nicer wines. A nicer wine doesn't have to be expensive, necessarily, and a lot of people start out with the sweeter wines and build their taste from there. Personally I love dry whites and have recently gotten more into reds. It sounds like you are into trying a whole lot of kinds, which is really awesome. I can't get my BF to try any kind of wine and it's depressing!

Don't worry about the White Zin thing... that's how a lot of people start enjoying wine. I started with WZ and then fell in love with Riesling. Lately the sweet wines don't quite work for me anymore, and I've moved on to Malbecs and Pino Grigios. I still don't know a quarter of what some of these other ladies know, but don't worry, they're happy to help if asked!

Welcome... tell us how you and your BF met. (This is a P&R (post and run) as I need to get ready for work!).

My son is the apple of my eye.  He makes me so incredibly proud but also makes me so incredibly stressed at the same time.  It happens when you're a mom.

He'll be turning 11 on April 1st (yes, he's an April fool. He wasn't born a fool and he certainly won't be raised one!) and is supppppppppeeeeerrrrrrr smart.  He's helped me figure stuff out when I sat dumbfounded.  He's read 3 of the HP books and wants all of them.  I've heard that the last few get a little to graphic in the sexual nature and I don't necessarily want to shelter him from it, but he's too young for that just yet....

Hmm...I've read all the Harry Potters more than once, and there is definitely no graphic sex. There is no sex at all, actually, except for kissing, and even that's super innocent. Elle, our resident Potterexpert, can back me up on this.

Otherwise, welcome! Do you like to cook? I'm also slightly obsessed with Jack Russell terriers (all terriers, actually, lol) so I'd like more doggie pictures!
Welcome... tell us how you and your BF met. (This is a P&R (post and run) as I need to get ready for work!).
Posted by cu97tiger
My bf and I originally met in Freshman Science class.  He was the tall, skinny, blonde haired, big eared, polish kid that I had a crush on all through HS.  Well, we fell out of touch after HS graduation.  We were never really "friends" outside of school but we hung out in class all 4 years.

We both had our fair share of relationships.  I was only engaged once and that ended due to my stupidity, plus I wasn't really feeling the "love" anymore.  It just wasn't there....I mean, I loved him (still do) but it felt like he was more of a friend than a fiance/husband. My bf was engaged 2 different times to 2 different girls.  Whom I never met or know. From what has been told, they both wronged him in some way (cheating on him and demanding he make more money/screwing up his credit horribly).

We reconnected one night when I posted on FB that I was going to have drinks with a girlfriend of mine at a bowling alley/bar that is in our area.  He messaged me and said he works there and had just left.  I of course told him that I would love to see him since it had been so long.  He showed up and boy was I floored.  He was still tall, not as skinny but built, he grew into his ears (lol) and was as cute as I remembered from HS.  Sadly, the day we reconnected at the bar, I was kinda seeing someone but that fell apart shortly after seeing him (that night actually - got stood up).

We swapped phone numbers and he had messaged me a "HI" about a week after we saw each other.  I responded with "dinner?" and he responded with "yes. Slocs" To which I said "GREAT! See you there."  Needless to say, those texts were the beginning of our relationship.  We've been together ever since......

Now, for those of you scratching your heads - he has a pt job on top of his ft job.  He practically grew up at the bowling alley as his dad had helped the owner for years.  So, needless to say, bowling has been a major part of his life and now it's a major part of mine.
In Response to Re: New here! : For cheap but delicious, I'd go for the yellowtail moscoto - not as sweet as most, and also bubbly.
Posted by hellotarra
I don't know if I've tried the Yellowtail one, but H really likes the Berringer label.  It's only like $5-$6 or something, but it's one of the better under $10 Moscatos we've had.

• The cheaper the wine, the more I like you. :) White Zin is a win, especially if it comes out of a box.
