I hope we can take him, too! At least now he is with a foster family who I'm sure will treat him well.

This is actually an almost perfect situation -- BF and I always wanted to get a dog together, we're moving in soon, and he recently fell in love with the idea of getting a Yorkie. Hopefully everything will fall into place!

EDIT: Bad news, guys -- we just spoke to the landlord. Though the website of our complex says small dogs are permitted, it's only in effect if you already have a dog, and even then they have to go through certain evaluations and pay extra fees. You can't move in and then get a dog. She said she recently had trouble with people getting animals, and it did not work out, and now it's a pet-free complex. So...unfortunately, we won't be able to take the little dude. Trust me, we are heartbroken, but we have done all we can do. At least he is with a foster family, safe, and will not be put down. Right now that is all that matters.

    Bside,

You can't believe how much I appreciate your efforts. As a matter of fact, I think everyone reading this thread appreciates them.

Thankfully, it seems the dog will be going to the foster home. I am just glad that the immediate possibility of him being put down is no longer an issue. Now he has a chance to find a happy, healthy home. :-)

EDIT: I'm starting to realize that I may have over-reacted to this situation. A number of you mentioned that no vet in his/her right mind is going to put down a perfectly healthy 2-year old Yorkie. I apologize if I over dramatized, it's hard for me to keep my BSC under control when it involves the inhumane treatment of an animal.

When it comes to animals, you're not BSC until a pet stroller is involved.

musik, you didn't over-react. Some vets WILL euthanize a perfectly healthy animal just because of an owner's request. Just like many, MANY vets declaw cats... which serves NO PURPOSE to help the cat. It just saves the owner's furniture (and can actually result in the cat biting people instead of scratching them as a defense, which can be MUCH worse).

Not all vets are looking out for the animal's best interest. Some see their job as a business and that's about it. It's terrible and sad.

musik, it was a labor of love. I thought it would work out for the best but I am SO happy that the puppy will be placed in foster care. It is a HUGE weight off my shoulders to know that. I even ended up telling my mother about the situation and she said she would have supported my decision to take the pup, but we are all so glad he is safe. Hopefully he will be snatched up quickly by a loving family that he deserves.
