BF has a date with the ER this afternoon

BF just called. I figured he would. His Dad is supposed to be picking up his cat this afternoon. His Dad is coming over soon. Oh ya, and he's coming home so he can go to the ER (his Dad is driving him). He has a nail through his finger. It's only his third day back at work after being off for 2 months to go to class. I know it's just a nail through a finger, but let's be honest, any construction injury requiring a trip to the hospital isn't a good thing.

So, I'm nervous for him to get home, not knowing what to expect. I have no idea how long he's going to be stuck at the hospital for, etc etc. Distract me! (And while you're at it, please send vibes!)

(Today has been sh!tty all around, but this is probably the icing on the craptastic day cake.)

EW!  As soon as I read "nail through the finger" I instantly pictured that part of the video in the movie The Ring.

I hope he's not in too much pain and it heals quickly.  Sorry Beads <3

Sorry Beads!  I hope he is fine and will pray for him. :/  Try not to worry too much.

I'm so sorry Beads. BF has had a broken wrist and a broken foot (3 bones), and a dislocated toe since I met him - so I'm no stranger to your situation! Sounds like he will be alright but I know how you feel, I always worry anyway.

I'd expect a bit of a wait - but assuming the nail is still in his finger when he arrives, i'm sure he will be bumped to the front of the line. Everything will be fine and your BF will be back to normal in no time! Keep your head up and maybe watch a movie or call a girlfriend tonight to keep you distracted. Wink

I will be sending positive vibes your way.

I was in the ER with BF about a month ago.  He's in construction too, and came home with respiratory complaints after sweeping up a site where they had done mold remediation.  It was effin scary.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. The thought of nail injuries makes me sick to my stomach, I don't know what it is. This is also coming from the girl who very recently had her toe nail removed and a bone spur taken out from under her nail. Now I have a lovely scar in my nail bed where the stitches were.

Sending good vibes!  Hope it's not too bad.

So, I'll tell you a "funny" finger injury story.  My dad is a retired cop (he was on the force for 30 years).  I don't remember the details of the call he was on, but he and a couple other guys ended up with some minor injuries and they sent them all to the hospital.  The ended up soaking my dad's hand 'cause one of his fingers (if I remember correctly, it was the middle finger) had received some kind of puncture of something.  He ended up being the one in the ER the longest 'cause they wanted to make sure there was no infection, etc.  Well, they finally decided to release him and the nurse came in and put a band-aid on his finger. He looked at her and said "nuh-uh".  She gave him this questioning look.  He said there's no way I'm walking out of this ER after all this time and facing my fellow officers after all this with just a little band-aid on my finger.  She caught on.  Next thing you know he's got one of those huge splints wrapping his finger and I think they even put him in a sling for a couple days.  And of course he milked it for all it was worth.

    Haha Angie, nice story!

And thanks everyone else for the good vibes. They must have been working, because we were in and out in about 4 hours (which is friggin amazing around here). The nail, which went straight through his left index finger, just missed his bone. They were concerned about the bone and couldn't tell for sure until after the nail was out. He's on heavy duty antibiotics to prevent infection, but all in all, it should be OK. It could have been a lot worse.

All of the hospital staff loved it though. They kept telling one another to look at it; it must have been the coolest thing that happened all day or something. It did look cool - it wasn't bleeding or anything. He kept the nail for some reason. It's on the kitchen counter, which I find a bit icky.

He can get the nail fashioned into a wedding band!!! That would be one helluva battle scar story starter!!!

Glad to hear he is going to be ok, and that his bone was not damaged, lucky guy!!!!

Glad he's okay!  That's a pretty lucky way to go.  :)

Just before BF and I started dating, we both worked at a restaurant.  Part of our job was to provide fresh sliced bread to our tables.  He picked up the bread knife to slice a loaf in half and somehow missed the bread and cut his thumb all the way to the bone.  And then, he tried to continue to work with it.  Moron.  His best friend took him to the hospital, and he suffered a few stitches, but it was pretty gruesome.
