Calming nerves?

Good morning ladies! My wedding is this saturday and my nerves are getting a little worked up. Not a cold feet nervous, just excited and anxious nervous. Do any of you have any suggestions as to how to calm them? My stomach tends to turn when this happens so right now I'm munching on some potato chips, but any other suggestions would be appreciated! TIA

Re: Calming nerves?

  • Congratulations! I'm following a week behind you. It's amazing and nerve wrecking all at the same time. Champagne and orange juice. Thats how I get over the jitters :-P
  • Hey ladies. I got married two weeks ago, and have major anxiety WITHOUT the wedding... I went to the doctor and he gave me a prescription for Xanax.  It was .25 mg, a very small dose.  I took it for about 3 days leading up to the wedding very early in the morning and at about 7 AM the day of. So, only ONCE a day. I know a lot of people don't like going this route, but it worked for me without making me feel "drugged" or out of it. GL!
  • Yea, I had a rum and coke last night ;)
  • Me too! Malibu and coke- my new fav. I don't like to take anti-anxiety meds, they upset my stomach.
  • Alexia, thanks for the recommendation but fortunately, it's not quite that bad just yet :) I will keep that in mind though.
  • Good for you! Then you're just perfectly normal - excited and nervous! :) I get the nervous sweats, IBS, and headaches, so mine was almost necessary.  My doctor patted me on the head and asked me why I waited that long to go see him. :) I haven't looked at the pills since the day of the wedding - YAY!
  • I have the same problem too. I had to run to the bathroom this morning once I got to work and thought I wouldn't be able to get up lol. Hence the potato chips :)
  • I always have xanax from my doc for anxiety--small does like PP. So I definitely plan to take that.  If you're still having upset stomach, try toast, saltines etc. Banana.  Also peppermint tea, or ginger tea or ginger ale. Peppermint and ginger are natural stomach soothing agents.

  • Ditto Pirata! Ginger and Peppermint teas are uh-mazing. My sister lived in Germany for 4 years and they don't believe in Pepto like we do here so she learned a lot about teas and natural things so she made those for me that week too! I can't believe I forgot that!
  • ditto on the ginger ale, ginger is great at making the tummy better! congrats you are almost there!!
  • Get some peppermints or peppermint gum. It will help sooth your tummy, also the mildless chewing helps anxiety. Also try drinking a cup of hot herbal tea in the morning. Congratulations! Get your nerves out of the way now and just enjoy Saturday. When you walk down that aisle, your nerves will dissolve away. Enjoy the day!
  • My wedding is two and half weeks away and the best thing that helps me is to keep a normal schedule.  I'm not taking much time off work before the wedding (only the Friday before) so I have a lot on my plate with work.  Focusing on that has really kept me level headed... in fact it didn't really occur to me that we are nearing the two week mark.  I guess things will get more hectic closer to the date but for now I'm just chugging along.. eating this elephant one bite at a time.

  • The gum idea sounds good.... Depending on my level of nerves I sometimes eat when I'm nervous, and that's not ideal, gum keeps you busy. I have bad anxiety too, so I just have to stay distracted. Try saltines and 7up if you have a tummy ache of course. Read a book, pay attention to someone else's life for a little while. Congrats and enjoy your day!

  • Whoo hoo!  We are both 4 days away!  I've been just nervous about getting everything done.  I've been having a glass a wine while I work on my last few wedding projects.  I'm trying to just take one thing at a time and take deep breaths if I start getting worked up about things.  I've also been keeping a list next to me at my desk and I keep adding things to it that I need to remember, so then my mind isn't jumping around so bad.  I'm actually not really thinking about the fact that I have four days left.  I've been pretending I have a few weeks and it seems to be working!  LOL

  • Hi Future mrs. lambdin,I am getting married on 11/7 as well and I am anxious about the ceremony going smoothly. I don't want anything to go wrong after so much hard work and planning went into this. So my advice is that the best thing to do is, whenever you feel you're getting worked up, like you feel that stomach tightening feeling.. just take a deep breath and remind yourself that you're wedding day is going to be The Best because you're marrying the Best, and everything else is just details. If you just focus on the love you feel for him and take the focus off everything else you'll feel better. You'll feel a rush of relief flow over you. It really is mind over matter. Congrats !!!!
  • Put down the potato chips!! You could try some yoga, but I use old movies. It is a great escape. I leave them on while I do house/school work. Try to nibble on things that won't stress your dress I like tomato juice or chicken broth and melba toast or popcorn.
  • squeal & jump up & down! then have a tummy pill (zantac type thing) with a glass of water.
