Wedding Planner

The more and more I think about it, the more I think that I would really like to have a wedding planner. I just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing and FI isn't really helping me, so I'd like someone there to help point me in the right direction, keep me there, and help me along the way. The only problem is this: We live in Pittsburgh, and our wedding will be back east near Philadelphia, where all our family and friends are. So my question is where do I hire a planner? Do I hire one from Philadelphia since she/he will know the area and know all the vendors there and things like that? Or do I hire one from Pittsburgh because she/he will be much closer and it will be much easier to meet with her/him and easier to make my vision clearer?

Re: Wedding Planner

  • If your wedding is going to be in Philadelphia, I'd hire one there.  One of the biggest perks of a wedding planner is they have a lot of contacts and can usually negotiate lower fees or freebies with vendors they know.  A WP in Pittsburgh probably wouldn't be as well-connected in Philly.

  • Hire the planner for where your wedding will be.  They'll be able to use their connections to secure you the best deals, and, more importantly, they'll be on-site the day of the wedding to keep things running smoothly.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ok, thank you, ladies. I figured that's what I should do, but wanted to ask anyways to make sure.

HIre a planner in the city that your wedding will be.  I am a Banquet Manager and have worked with many planners with clients that are not in the same city as the wedding.  It requires a bit more communictation at the start  but you ill find that they can do a lot of the leg work for you and can use thier contacts and suppliers to create your perfect day.
