Re: fun cupcake flavors? survey

  • I would do fun flavors, but also include plain chocolate and vanilla. I know a lot of people who don't like funky flavors. That said, the Reese's and chocolate covered cherry sound pretty good.

  • mmm Chocolate covered cherry! I like a good lemon cupcake, rasp. lemonade sounds good...
  • Yum!  Where did you get these recipes?  How far in advance are you making these?  I want to do DIY projects too, but I don't know if I'd have time for this!  Sorry, no ideas for more flavors but it sounds like you've got a lot to choose from already!

    thanks,
i just thought of fun flavor combinations and how i can doll up box mixes.

raspberry lemonade will be a lemon cake, 2/3s will be made with lemonade concentrate instead of water. the raspberry 1/3 will have mashed raspberries in it and i will layer them in the cupcake. top with lemon frosting and a few berries

the chocolate covered cherry is a chocolate cake mix made with cherry pepsi instead of water and chopped cherries mixed in. i will put a chocolate covered cherry on top.

mint chocolate is half white cake with mint extract and green food coloring mixed in and half chocolate cake, swirled together in the cupcake pan. topped with chocolate frosting and andies mint chips.

almond joy is 1/2 white cake made with coconut milk, 1/2 dark chocolate cake with almond extract. the top will be edged in toasted coconut flakes and topped with an almond

the plan is to do TONS of prep a few weeks ahead, like gathering all the supplies for each kind, and bake about 5 days before  (freeze them) and frost the day before.

  • I would for sure eat a Reeses cupcake.  Peanut Butter is definitely my favorite food though... I can eat it by the spoonful.

Mostly I wanted to say that I agree with pp about having a selection of "plain" flavors as some people will want something classic.

  • Those all sound really good. Boxed cake mix is awesome, especially when you add stuff to it. I like homemaking anything that's better homemade, but truth be told, boxed cake mix is every bit as good as any cake I've ever made from scratch.

  • Reese's sounds delicious.  Especially if it has chocolate cup cake with peanut butter frosting.
  • As PP's mentioned, plain flavors are a great idea.  How about Bailey's?
  • I recently tried a recipe for snickerdoodle cupcakes:) Mmmmmm- cinnamon

Man, now I have a bad craving for snickerdoodles. Maybe I'll make some tonight.

  • I agree about having some regular chocolate or vanilla flavors for the less adventurous people. From your list, I like the sounds of:

    raspberry lemonade
    chocolate covered cherry
    strawberry cheesecupcake

Personally, I love cherry-cola float cupcakes. I found the recipe in a Woman's World magazine and they're actually a white cake mix. So light and tasty, man I'd make them every weekend if I could.
  • Please post after you try all these out!  I want to know how they are!
  • These were my cake flavors:

cherry chocolate cake with bailey's irish cream buttercream filling

white chocolate cake with peach schnapps buttercream filling

butter pecan cake with caramel buttercream filling.

Honestly I would only choose 3 or four flavors.  A rule I like to follow is:
Something chocolate, something "vanilla" (ie. plain/basic), something fruity

  • Our favorite flavor combination is white chocolate raspberry.  That would be amazing in a cupcake.  Now I want to experiment...
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Also, if you want to have a lot of different flavors, you can do mini-cupcakes, although I don't know how much more work that would entail.  I would plan for 3-4 mini cupcakes per person, though, as people will probably want to sample multiple flavors.

  • good idea tide!  I like mini cupcakes in multiple flavors!  That means I don't have to choose, I can taste them all!
  • YUM!!

I really like the sound of Caramel Macchiatto, Carrot, and Strawberry Cheesecake.

I also like the mini cupcake idea. You are looking for fun. That is fun and delicious.

You said you wanted pictures? These are cute. But all I did was google them. You should just do that because I don't really know what style/colors/decorations you like.

    thanks ladies,

so i tried the strawberry cheesecake cupcakes tonight,

i took a strawberry cake mix, added chopped frozen strawberries (i figured ill have better luck getting frozen ones than fresh for the wedding in october)

the filling was 1 brick of cream cheese, slightly melted with about 1/3 cup powdered sugar, mixed well and bagged in ziplock (aka pastry bag).

i baked the cupcakes. when they were cool, i poked a hole in the middle with a wooden spoon handle, then filled the hole with the cheese filling.
i frosted with cream cheese frosting and rolled the edges of the cupcake in crushed graham crackers. topped with a strawberry slice ( i want the topping to be a clue as to what is inside!)

what i will do differently next time is use the filling mixture for the top frosting also, it was sooo yummy and more cheesecakey than the cream cheese frosting.

  • Okay, the strawberry cheesecake ones sound and look amazing. I love cream cheese anything and everything. The raspberry lemonade ones sounds pretty darn good, too.

I had a cinnamon cupcake from Cinnabun the other day. It was delicious. I could have eaten like 23 of them.
