Re: E-Ring Poll

  • FI took me to the store and told me I could have anyone I wanted.  I didn't believe him so I picked out the biggest most sparkly one lol

  • You don't have my option.  We went shopping together a couple of times, but he picked it out on his own.  He'd actually already bought it on the second trip, he just wanted to see how he did.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. •   I originally got 3 rings!

He had a nice one on lay-a-way at the store. But didnt want to wait to ask me so he bought a cheap on on ebay and had it shipped. Then took me to the store a few days later to see my "official" one and get it sized right.

But due to the store having problems and closing down WITH OUT, sending us something saying that they we be closing their doors. We had a choice refund or pay for the right. We chose refund, they store was a pain in the butt to work with.

The set was like 1600 dollars. After getting our money back we went looking again. I then found my ring that I have now, and LOVE a thousand times more then the set at Leroys, at Zales. And it was in the 60% off case so it only cost like 600 bucks! I love my ring now. After I found it i didn't even care too look at anything else in the store. Now we just have to find a good jewelers to do custom bands:)

  • you don't really have my option either.  FI and I went shopping together, so I could show him what I liked and didn't like.  After a TON of stores, he started getting the right idea.  He actually purchased it on his own, and we went to a few more stores so I wouldn't be suspicious.
  • Sorry for not including your options ladies :)

H and I picked out my ring together.  He bought it and then surprised me one night with the proposal.  It wasn't as surprising as popping the question out of the blue, but I'm glad I got to pick out my ring.

  • You don't have my option either. :)  I had shown FI a ring that I loved and we'd gone to look at it a couple of times together.  One of my relatives is a jeweler, so FI went to him to get the ring.  Together they designed a ring that was similar to the one I loved, but I love it even more!  It's beautiful and perfect for me. :)

  • I basically dropped hints on what I liked and didn't like.  I loved princess cut and he then suggested radiant cut.  I haven't met one person yet who hasn't commented on how shiny it is.  Laughing  I also told him it would be a good idea to get a ring that would have a matching wedding band we can purchase together later.  A day or two after he purposed he sent me a link that included the matching band.  Its perfect.

Its funny, when he is around and people are asking me specific details about the ring he comes out of no where spewing all these engagement ring technical terms.  Ask him a year ago what a cathedral cut or pave' setting was he would look at you like you had two heads.  Now he is some sort of expert.

  • DH had an idea of what he wanted to get me, but he wasn't sure so he took me to a store and just asked that I point out the ones that I liked. So I found a really pretty hand-engraved setting and it ended up being exactly the ring that H was thinking of getting. It was still a surprise though.

  • I had described what I liked to FI.  I had no idea when he started going ring shopping, but he did take my sister along to make sure he wasn't making a huge mistake in the ring he picked out.
  • My FI actually went shopping with his nephew to pick out my ring. He held on to it for 3 months keeping it a secret until our anniversary when he proposed. He can't keep a secret to save his life so I was soooo surprised that he didnt spill it earlier. But he did good. It was a great day that i'll remember forever. I actually think I told him to stop playing around and be serious. LOL. I wasn't expecting it at all. !! This is my ring.
  • my option isnt there. My E-ring was passed down from my FI grandmother. It was her engagement ring, then given to his mother, then his mother gave it to him when he told her he was going to ask me. Its gorgeous. I love it! Antique-y and unique!  We are having a hard time finding a band that sits flush with it, so it looks like we are going to have one custom made.

  • I can't see polls on the computer I'm on, but H picked out the ring all by himself.  He had asked me once about my preference, and I told him that I liked the princess cut, and white gold.  That was it.  He went shopping by himself and picked out the most perfect ring.  I love it.  I had no clue about clarity and all that kind of stuff, but he took the time to talk to the jewelers and they explained everything.  He still knows more about diamonds than I do.

  • We knew we wanted to get married so we went to the mall and looked around. i told him lets open up an account at a store so when he is ready he can get one. he then told me to find one i like, and i did but his brother had that set, so we picked out different ones and he said ok lets get them. i was shocked. but i asked him to ask my parents befor he gave it to me. then he just handed me the ring in the box.
  • He ultimately picked out the ring, but I had my mom & best friend drop hints. He took my dad ring shopping with him after researching on the internet. :) I was really nervous about him picking the ring out, because he hadn't asked me for any input at ALL. When he got down on one knee and opened the ring box, I was completely shocked! It's a gorgeous ring!!!

  • My friend who's now my MOH dragged me to a mall one day to look for rings.  I knew I didn't want to go shopping with FI, but I had no idea what I wanted in terms of rings.  So I went to two stores and got some good ideas, and found 3 rings that I really liked at the 2nd store.  The first store I didn't like anything!  Anyways, my friend told FI that when he's ready to contact her because she had all the details.  While she did NOT tell him the top 3 I liked (just the general specifics of metal, cut, style, etc), he actually chose one of my favorites!  He done good :-)

  • My fiance and I never went into one store to ring shop.  I never told him directly what I would like, but I did talk to my FSIL.  MY fiance dropped hints, like I was getting coal for Christmas (he proposed on my birthday 12/23).  He had picked out a gorgeous ring and I absolutely love it.

  • I told him exactly what I liked, but he bought something totally different - and much nicer!  I do not normally wear rings so I had no clue what size or what would look good or what I could get used to wearing everyday.  We went together just to look and get an idea.  We both agreed on the size and style that we were interested in, but when he actually went to buy the ring he saw a different one that he said "looked just like something I would like".  It was nothing like what I picked but he opened the box I was completely surprised and LOVE my ring more than anything.
We ran off to Vegas and got married!
  • We went looking very early in our relationship but the designer stopped making the set I had chosen.  So 5 years later when he had my rings made, he had an idea of what I liked.  I couldn't have chosen a more beautiful set...he made the perfect decision.  I'm such a lucky girl.  :)
  • FI and I were together for 3.5 years before he proposed, so over the years he had bought me several pieces of jewelry and knew my style pretty well.  Also whenever we got catalogs in the mail or drove past a billboard for a jeweler we would tell each other whether we loved it or hated it.  In the end he had my ring custom made, all on his own, and I absolutely love it.  It's a princess cut center stone with two round side stones all set at an angle on two bands theat weave together (there's a third band that insets for the wedding band). I've never seen anything like it and it fits my style perfectly.  Everyone who looks at my ring is amazed he picked it out on his own :-)
  • My FI and I went ring shopping together. We went to a few different places and I found a few that I like. Ultimately he picked the ring, it was between two, and I couldn't be happier.

I am glad we went and looked together and picked out the ring. It isn't that I don't trust him but I knew he was more comfortable knowing that I was happy with the ring as well since I will be wearing it forever!

We did the same thing with his ring. And I am glad we did because the ring he picked out was the last ring that I would have thought to get him. I am glad that he is happy with his choice and I am with mine.

  • My FI proposed to me before he had a ring. He told me that he didn't pick one out because he wanted me to help in the selection. He took me to the store after I said yes and we picked out my ring together.

  • My option not included either! My e-ring was my grandmother's. So H just had to ask for it when he was ready! Had we not had my Grandma's ring, he knew I like antique rings and his mom is super savvy on ebay and shopping in general, so I think either she would have helped him find something or we would have at least shopped together so he was certain he knew what I liked.  The ring is beautiful--lots of detail, stuff you don't see anymore. The center is raised slightly, and in the filigree work front and back, there are 3 small flowers.

  • Well it was sort of me telling him I like white gold.  He had a flawless diamond that his grandma left to him when she died (before he was born).  He went and picked out the setting with his parents and it is exactly what I wanted.  A solitaire setting in white gold.

  • I was able to design my own ring.  I was given my grandmother's engagement ring and wedding band but I don't like antique settings.  So we reset her engagement ring and the stones from her wedding band into a channel setting around the solitaire.  It's beautiful and I absolutely love my ring.

He picked it out all by himself.  He did a good job.  I love my ring.  I just wonder how he knew the size and everything.
  • we went shopping together and I picked out 3. From there he surprised me with one.
We did NOT go to one of those cheap mall stores, and it is NOT a trendy "now" designer either.

  • My ring is a sapphire- I didn't want the traditional diamond, and am so glad I went with it! I love it! I cried when he put it on my hand!

  • My fiance and I shopped together for a couple of years (I'm not kidding!)...and he got the exact picture of what I wanted. He designed parts of it that were important to him, the height of prongs, way diamond floated, etc, but he went with my favorite things, halo, rose gold. Also, he chose the diamond himself. He got very into looking at stones with a loop. So intense.

  • Derek picked it out all by himself but he did bring my mom in when he was about to buy it because he wanted to make sure she liked it. My mom is my best friend and we have the same taste in jewelry. I was completely floored. He spoiled me so much more than i would have ever imagined. We are getting married 2 weeks from tomorrow and have been engaged 15 months and i still find myself gazing at my engagement ring. it's my perfect ring for sure! The picture isnt very clear but....
