E-Ring Poll

Re: E-Ring Poll

  • I was showing him what I liked one night. Expecting the engagement to be far off. And he went out and got exactly what I wanted and completely surprised me only 2 months later.
  • He knew I loved pearls and always wanted a pearl e-ring.

He sat down with the jeweler and designed the ring with him.  There was no "picking out".

It has a lovely pearl in the middle with my birth stone (aqua marine) on either side in a princess cut.  Then there are three small diamonds going down the band.

He said this was a unique ring -  no one else will ever have one like it.  Like me :) (awwwww) I get raves about it all the time - and everyone says it's "so me".

I plan to pass it down in my family and make it an heirloom.

  • We went ring shopping about 2-3 years before we got engaged.  I fell in love with this particular ring and he really liked it the best as well.  I was expecting that ring and would visit it in the store when I would pass by.  When he finally proposed it was a different ring, different shape diamond and band, but it was chosen by him and I have really grown to love it.  The diamond is actually bigger than the one I had picked out, and there are more little ones on the side.  Its so beautiful and the thought that he hand picked this one for me without having a say in it really meant a lot.
  • I voted "We chose Together", but it was a little bit more than that. My FI wanted it to be a surprise, so he had told no one that he was planning to propose. It was on my birthday that he proposed, and he wanted us to choose the ring together, but didn't want to propose without a ring, so he had bought a really cute ring from a $2 Shop (not sure of the USA equivalent), so he would have a ring to propose with. :) The following weekend we drove to the city, where I tried on heaps of rings, and we found a brilliant cut with three smaller round cuts on each side (but in a triangle formation rather than in a straight line) - I love it cause its 'me' but its different to my engaged friends & family members rings.
  • A close friend of mine told my boyfriend what I wanted...unfortunately, it was a wedding set I had tried on when I was trying to get another of our friend's looking at rings to give her boyfriend clues. Thank heavens for return guarantees!
Once I realized what happened, I told my boyfriend that everything was wrong. We took the ring back and looked at rings in several jewelry stores until I found one I didn't want to take off.
Although I know he will propose sometime this year, I have no idea when or how. After everything that though, he wanted to make sure I had a ring I loved.

  • My FI proposed without a ring, because he was flat broke!  He was unemployed had been for 2 years.  He told me over and over that when he was working again he was going to buy me a "HUGE" ring.  I don't like big jewelry, and worry constantly about wearing expensive jewelry, because I'm a clutz.  I break and lose things constantly!  I found a ring I was in love with in a catalog.  It has celtic knots on it, which I love and it's sterling silver which is my favorite (and I'm not allergic to it, HA!)  Most importantlly, it's a cubic z, which was affordable for him AND I don't have to worry daily about breaking and/or losing it.  It's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen and I'm not terrified to wear it...I'm a happy girl!

There are lots of choices out there, for every budget and lifestyle!  Sometimes you just have to be creative!
Being together makes the scary stuff not so scary. It makes everything seem a little safer...so we've decided to do something totally crazy - get married!
  • Sort of...
I took my fiance to a couple of stores in all price ranges to show him what I liked/didnt like at each. He claimed he "got it". A couple months later he propsed with a brilliant 1.25 carat pear-cut in a halo setting with 31 .5 carat round stones in white gold. It really is my dream ring. The diamonds are so brilliant and sparkle even in the dark. He did such an amazing job.My friends have nicknamed it "the disco ball".

  • We went to the store and looked at them together.  He wanted me to have something that I liked seems how I would be wearing it forever.  So I picked the one that I liked and he bought it the next day (without my knowledge) and purposed 3 months later so it was a complete surprise.

  • we went about it a little atypically. i knew i didn't want a diamond and was thinking of an aquamarine. enter my dad onto the scene. he used to work with the mining industry in south america years ago (when i was a little kid) and, as a result, still has a ton of the semi-precious stones he purchased back then. he said that if we wanted, we could have one. so, i picked out a blue topaz i loved and then we went to a jeweler and had a very simple, very elegant ring made.

i had an idea what the finished product would look like, but once we left everything up to the jeweler's hands, i said i didn't want to see it again until he proposed.

it ended up beautifully. :) the only issue now is whether we're going to be able to find a simple band that will sit with it (the stone's kinda big) or whether we're just going to add on to it. we'll have to set up an appointment with our jeweler here soon ...

  • My FI and I started looking together before we were engaged, and I basically picked out the setting myself by picking from a combo of rings. But he said the surprise was how and when I got the ring and what it looked like together.
  •  It was a surprise. He took me to the jewlers in Philadelphia, sat me on a stool at the jewel case and told me to pick what ever I liked. I selected several different rings that I liked one thing or another about...but not one ring had everything. The jeweler said no problem we can custom design your ring and that is exactly what they did. Between my Rob and Rob the jeweler the ring is a to die for one of a kind.  Harry Merril  and Son's jewelers in Philadelphia Pa was awesome to work with and sent us drafts of the project in the various states of construction. My ring makes my heart smile everytime I look at it. I was impressed that the FI was this creative. Best surpirse ever.
  • My fiance completely surprised me with a diamond in a box when he asked me to marry him.  He already knew I wanted to design my own ring, and I did.  I took a drawing to a ring maker and we worked together to create the most unique and perfect ring.  I wouldn't trade it for the world.

This was not an option on the poll!
