So you're saying alcohol should be illegal too right?

Re: So you're saying alcohol should be illegal too right?

  • Bored insomniac here on west coast time (but also too lazy to read through all the posts.) Original post was about weed/alcohol. Went to the last page to see where the debate netted out and apparently at incest? Inneresting.

  • Ally, you act like everyone here thinks incest is a great idea and we wouldn't think twice about it.  Not true.   There's just no real basis for saying it should be illegal.  That's all.   Like I said earlier, people can have a sexual relationship without being married, so how does banning marriage prevent a baby conceived in incest?   It will still happen.   Laws will not stop sexual relationships.   Right now, they are only preventing marriages.

Incest gives me the willies too, but as long as the relationship is happening among consenting adults (and began after adolescence), then why fight it?

  • Ok. So there's proof that relatives having children creates birth defects. Thats a fact. That's not okay. So as long as all of these incestual couples agree NOT to have children and ONLY "go to the grocery store and hang pictures in their home," then sure. Go for it. But them having children is a BAD thing, 110%. But marriage is marriage. You can't give one type of couples all of the benefits of marriage and take away the rights of another. That's not constitutional. So by allowing them to get married, you are signing the permission slip for them to have children who will more than likely suffer from a disease such as hemophilia. THAT'S why it's illegal, and that's why it will continue to be illegal. Sorry I'm so late with the response.

[QUOTE]Ally? Is there a time of day when you're not unpleasant to everyone? So far, you're unpleasant in the afternoon, unpleasant in the evening, unpleasant late at night. I'm not much for mornings and therefore haven't noticed you posting then. Maybe that's the sweet spot of your day?

In some states, you can marry your first cousin as long as you can show that one of you is sterile/infertile.  You cool with that?

It's five or six states. You also have to be 55, 65 or older, depending on the state. Which being sterile is pretty irrelevant at that point cause you're pretty much not having any children at that point anyway.

  • Also, I am cool with that, because they won't be having defected children who had no choice in life but to be born to some whack jobs if they're sterile. You don't get to produce a child knowing the high risk simply because you want to have a child with your sibling or cousin. That's dangerous and selfish.

<div>So do you think people with genetic diseases with a high liklihood of passing it on to their children shouldn't be allowed to get married because of possible defects to possible kids? (even though marriage and kids are not mutually exclusive)</div><div>
</div><div>This was the original point of Stage's argument against incest, the only reason it's illegal is because of possible fetal defects, but yet we don't outlaw non-related people, some with an even higher chance of passing their disability than relatives, from getting married on that basis alone, so why should that be the deciding factor for incestuous relationships?</div><div>
</div><div>I can't exactly stomach the idea of incest, I think it's pretty disturbing to knowingly sleep with any member of your family, but just because I think it's wrong, doesn't give me the right to legislate it, KWIM.  This is the problem with America these days, just because YOU think something is wrong, you want to force EVERYONE to conform to your ideals.  If it's not affecting you, then it's none of your damn business.  You think incest is wrong?  Then don't fvck your brother, but it's not your right to force your beliefs on everyone else.</div><div>
