Alphabetizing escort cards

At first glance, it seems putting escort cards in alphabetical order is the easiest way, but I have a lot of couples who don't have the same last name. Would it still be best to just do alphabetical order, or would it be best to do partially alphabetical, but still put couples' cards together?

So, instead of married couple John Smith's and Jane Doe's escort cards being on opposite sides of the table, they would be next to each other so the couple, who would likely be standing there together, could find their cards together.

Now that I've written it out, it seems more complicated. Any thoughts?

  • Aphabetical order.
Any other way would be too complicated to explain and for the guest to find.

  • Alphabetical.  People know to look for their names in alphabetical order.

You could alphabetize by first name too but last name is easier for the guest to find their card. A lot guests won't have the same last name as their plus one... Whoever is the plus one would be the 2nd name listed on the card so u would alphabetize it by the first persons last name. Generally couples have one card... Same last name or not, not two separate cards.
