Importing Guest list

I can't import my guest list.  I have followed the instructions and the list doesn't import.  I downloaded the guestlist template.  I chose my file (xcel) and I hit upload.  That brought me to a preview page but the list didn't upload.  Please let me know how this is supposed to work.

My fiance manually input her guest list.  So, I had planned on importing mine via Excel.  From what I'm reading here, that's a bad idea?  Do I run the risk of losing all her work when I import a file with my guests??
