Need Advice about Wedding Dress from David's Bridal

Hi everyone!
So I purchased a dress from David's Bridal (Galina brand) a month ago and it came in within two weeks. (Which was awesome!) Well I went to pick it up yesterday and while I was there I found another dress that I liked better (David's Bridal brand.) I was told that the dress wouldn't come in until July 23rd and my wedding is August 20th. The Galina dress came in within two weeks of me ordering it. But David's Bridal is very slow in shipping. Do you think I should take a chance and buy the dress I really want? Or should I stick with the dress I bought. It's killing me that I have to wait until a month before the wedding to have the David's Bridal dress.

  • You can ask about paying for a rush order and overnight shipping. Alterations can be as fast as a few days depending on what is needed. (I would recommend finding a seamstress outside of David's Bridal.)

If you really want this other dress, it's possible and can work out. Only you can answer if the other dress is the dress you want to wear on your wedding day.

    Good luck!

  • Don't be a two dress bride.  I'm sure there are reasons why you bought the one you have.  Honestly, are there dresses I would have liked better than the one I wore?  Probably.  But I didn't want to have two dresses hanging around my house, and I didn't want to waste that money.  It always just seems so silly to have two dresses.

    Resist the urge! :)
  • They *might* let you exchange if the second dress costs more. I bought a Galina from DB originally but then lost 30 pounds and they allowed me to exchange for a dress that was more flattering. Talk to the store's manager and see if you can do that. If you can't, I would stick with the original. I wouldn't want to have an unused, new dress hanging in my closet.
  • I shop at the Columbia, MO -David's Bridal, and I love LOVE love them!

They have let me do COUNTLESS exchanges! :)

I initially bought a dress. The 1st one I tried on (I only tried 2). I loved it. But after thinking about it, the dress I purchased was too simple, and not "me". I called DB, and told them my situation. They said that I could exchange the dress for something I loved.

At my next appointment, I had a different consultant. She was amazing. She pushed my boundaries, and helped me find THE DRESS. David's Bridal let me exchange the dress I bought, and the accessories that I had bought for THE DRESS and THE ACCESSORIES :)

Then we picked my mom's outfit, which was a pant suit. Once again... rather impulsive. First thing she tried on. She wasn't sure about dresses. On a different day we came in and found a gorgeous black dress in the Bridesmaid section. I asked my mom to try it on, and she was glowing! I knew I wanted her to wear this gown when she walked me down the aisle!!! So we purchased this gown. Since I didn't have the pant suit with us, I made an appt to return with the pant suit at a later date, to exchange it for shoes for all 6 of my bridesmaids. They made the appointment, and a few days later I did the exchange :) Unfortunately only a few Bridesmaids could attend, and 2 out of the 6 shoes didn't fit! No problem, DB let me exchange for the right size :)

During my Bridal Shower one Bridesmaid decided to try on her dress... IT DIDN'T FIT, and IT WASN'T THE RIGHT DRESS!!! The correct size and style is on it's way! :)
Finally, I was JUST browsing the DB website, and those Bridesmaid shoes I bought at 29.99 a pair are only 19.99 now. David's Bridal is doing a price adjustment for all 6 pairs :) That is a savings of $60, that I can put towards our honeymoon.

After all that... I say get the dress of your dreams! You can exchange the other dress, assuming that it is in good condition, and no alterations. :) This is a big day for you an your FI, and if you have the opportunity to look like a million bucks... do it! :)

[QUOTE]My dress was a Galina dress.  That was in 1976.  Galina was bought by David's bridal some years ago.  The company only exists as a part of David's Bridal.  It is not the separate company it was when I was a bride.  Galina is a "house" label now.  When you are buying a Galina dress, you are buying a David's Bridal dress. No difference.

What does that have to do with anything that OP asked?

  • I say buy the dress you love!  You should be able to look back at your wedding and photos and love the way you looked.

  • If they let you exchange your dress, then I'd do it, but otherwise I'd stick with the dress I already had.

  • Get the one you love. Make your fitting appointments now so you can get them done in time. I bought a dress from DB (don't remember the brand), and then when I went in to get it, I saw a different one (it was new, wasn't there when I tried on dresses) that I LOVED! They let me exchange since the new one was more expensive. I am so happy I went with my gut.
