BM Dresses

For my BMs I was thinking about just going to a Macy's or getting dresses off the rack to save the girls some $. How far in advance would you do this? Our wedding is in May. My only fear is if we waited until next year and could not find anything it would be too late to order dresses.
 
I also have one BM who keeps insisting we wait to look at dresses until she loses 10lbs (though she looks great as is) but I don't want to hold everyone else up for 10lbs that may or may not happen. Should she just get one and if she loses have it taken in? Maybe buy a smaller size?

I ran into this same situation!
I wanted to check out Macys etc., because you can find pretty cocktail dresses for a lot less and lets face it a BM dress is no different really than a cocktail dress or evening gown that can be found at a dept store. BUT the convenience of a bridal salon is it makes it easy to match colors an ensure sizing etc.
Both of my BM insisted on waiting though so they could lose wait at which point it became too late to take time shopping around, because a order w/bridal salon can take up to 12 weeks to come in and you dont want to risk not being able to order from them if thats what you decide to do. A rush order can cost a lot extra!
SO to save you some stress, I highly highly reccomend checking out the department stores now, so you have plenty of time to look at your options, since sometimes they may have a limited selection in the color you want etc. This way you won't be limited to one thing or another. The girls will probably have to get them altered anyway so if they lose weight can just take it in.
Just explain nicely that you don't want to risk it and would like to start shopping around now... (sorry for the long post, guest I needed a vent)
