Davids Bridal

FYI:  I would stay away from Davids Bridal for any wedding attire.  I purchased my gown, bridesmaids, and flower girl dress from them and had a HORRIBLE experience.  I know you're thinking maybe it was just in my area, but no.  I had to call managers at locations at two locations in California and 3 in Texas. The sales associates at all locations were rude and inpatient.  They did not listen to our needs or concerns.  My MOH was told what sixe she needed, instead of them ordering what she wanted they ordered the size they thought she needed.  So she had to pay $141 dollars for alterations on a $79 dress.  My bridesmaids were told that they body was not appropriate for the dress that I wanted.  Others had told me to stay away from Davids Bridal, but I didnt listen.  If you read this I hope you do.

Re: Davids Bridal

  • Sorry you had a sucky experience. But, it actually does vary by location. I'm in WI and went to DB, I had a pleasant experience with no problems whatsoever.Everyones experience is different.

  • I'm sorry things were like that for you. I had a great experience at my DB in Montana. I got my dress, my bridesmaid dresses, and alterations there. None of my girls needed alteration on their dresses.

  • i had a TERRIBLE experience at one in KS!! I will never go to  DB ever again or refer anyone!!
  • I would call the corporate office that is located in PA and complain. Maybe they can refund some of the costs for alterations. I recently did that and they were VERY accommodating after I complained about the service. I got $ back right away.
  • Oh wow, that sucks. My bridesmaids are buying their dress at DB's and none of them hade this kind of trouble. I bought my dress in 2007 and its not until now (Nov. 09) that I will wear it :). I have the receipt of the dress (wich they have at their stores and catalogs) called them the other day to see if I could get a size bigger (I started taking BCP's and gained some weight :() They said they'll not exchange it, that I'll have to pay $150 to get a pannel!!!! My dress only was $400 I am thnking about selling it and getting the money for it to get my actual size!!!! Its crazy.... A dress that has never ever been used :(
  • i think it really does just go by location. i went to the one in Altamonte Springs, FL and they were amazing and then the one in West Palm, FL was awful to deal with. I'm getting my dress there because I have yet to find a dress I love more (and I've looked at alfred angelo, casablanca, and maggie sottero). However, I won't be getting my BM dresses there, I'm getting them from Alfred Angelo because I like their dress selection and colors better. But I think it just depends where you live, or the people working that day, or your attitude towards them. But that's just from my experience.
  • Please don't make assumptions about David's Bridal employees at every store location.  While I already knew my consultant, she is an absolutely sweet, helpful person with good taste and didn't push me into purchasing a dress that same day.  Their alterations are expensive though.  Were they right about your bridesmaids' body types?  It is possible that they were just making sure that your bridesmaids would have dresses that fit well or looked good on them so they'd be comfortable.  Some bodies don't work with certain body types - I can't pull off tea length, super tight or super poofy dresses.
  • Sorry you didn't have a good experience but there are as many brides out there who were happy with David's Bridal as there are brides that were unhappy.  I happen to be one of the people who had a great experience.  My local store has a steller reputation so it really does depend on what location you're visiting.

  • Liz~ As long as the tag is still in it, they should let you exchange it. It might be discontinued aftr so long and they just cant find that dress anywhere. The 1 seamstress had me order a way to big dress, and now they say alterations would be about $500 total. I have an appointment to exchange it on Sunday. They don't make my dress anymore so I need to pick a completely different one.
  • I had a great experience at David's Bridal. I agree that it varies by location. I've also dealt with them in the past for friend's weddings and never had a problem. Also to pp, I think it's unreasonable to expect a business to exchange an item that was bought almost two years ago.

  • I also had a horrible DB experience and I wasn't even seriously looking for a dress, my BFF and I went into one in Westbury LI and the person greeted us asked us if we needed help we said "no thanks we're just looking" and went on our way well I wanted to try on a couple just for size so we took them off the rack and went to the dressing area, at which time one of the employees started yelling at us in front of everyone like we were some kids off the street causing trouble telling us that we weren't supposed to take dresses off the rack and to put them back and go to the desk and have someone help us, it was so humiliating I put the dresses back and we walked out and I will NEVER go back to another DB again. I'm 25 and don't appreciate being treated like a 15 year old mallrat being chewed out by security.
  • SpringBride1114- Is your dress from DB? I know the dress that I have they have it in stores and even in the catalog, they updated the picture!! So its not that they're not selling it anymore. I called the store where I bought it in Puerto Rico and talked to the manager and she said they cannot exchange it, that I only had 30 days to do this, I mean, its not my fault that the date changed at all and what not.... it seems that I have to take $150+ which wasnt in our budget!!!!! and the wedding is 2 months n 4 weeks away .....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh ....
  • Liz~ I did get it from DB. I just found THE DRESS yesterday and have an appointment to do the exchange on Sunday. I can't get the full $700 back because it is on sale now, but the one I picked is on sale too. The new one is actually $100 less then my original, so my poofy crindoline I get at no extra cost. I would call and ask to speak with a manager.
  • RockChickPiXie -- Although the yelling was not necessary, they treated you that way because you are supposed to make an appointment with them. Just walking in and helping yourself is not how that place does business. The dressing rooms are there for people who have appointments. The people that work there are catering to the customer and they have a timeframe set for each one. You can't just barge in and do what you want. jparra -- I just purchased my dress from DB this month in San Diego and had a great experience as well. There are only 3 locations near by. I went with a friend to look for her dress at one location and they were very stuck up and didn't even stick around to help her after putting her dresses near the dressing room. The other location is more than 30 minutes away so I knew when I went to try on my dress, I wasn't going to the one with the snobby employees or the one that was further away but the location I went to was perfect. I already knew what dress I wanted and they held it for me for 2 days (even though they say they can only hold it for 1) and when I came in they had it waiting for me and helped me find other dresses "just to be sure" that the one I wanted was the "one." I was catered to the whole time, he spent nearly 20 minutes lacing up my dress and even took pictures for me since I went alone. A few days before that, I went to a "high end" bridal store because I originally wanted a maggie dress and the girls in there were rude and if you weren't flashing cash, they did nothing to help you.So yes, it is all based on the location.
