Going Green....Pre-owned or rental dress?

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knows of a place in Southern California (Los Angeles/Greater Los Angeles Area) where I can find a pre-owned or rental dress. The idea of spending tons of money on a dress is just not that important to me....and I'd rather be eco-friendly since I'm only going to be wearing it once! I don't care at all about owning my dress because I don't have any inclination to heirloom it for any potential future daughters or sentimental value. :-)At the same time, I want pre-owned or rental CUTE...not tacky...Let me know if you have any ideas! Thanks! :-)

  • Are you willing to buy online? Try preownedweddingdresses.com, savethedress.com, oncewed.com, eBay and Craigslist. Also try thrift shops and consignment stores. I was in the local Salvation Army a few years ago and saw a beautiful, modern Mori Lee dress in wonderful condition that was selling for $100. If you want a brick-and-mortar store where you can try stuff on, ask the L.A. board for suggestions. Also go on Yelp.com and look for thrift and consignment stores in your area.

  • Since you're in the area, check out Unique Vintage in Burbank.  It's not a pre-owned or rental place, but they've got vintage-style dresses that are really, really cute, and pretty cheap (the most expensive dresses I've seen in the place are around the $400-500 range, and most are significantly less).  Their website is unique-vintage.com if you want to check out their selection.  I ultimately didn't buy from them, but there are a lot of dresses there that I drooled over. When you're done with it, you can donate it to Brides against Breast Cancer, the Cinderella project, or a similar cause so that it's not going to waste.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Hi!  My sister's friend just got married and rented a designer gown (sorry -- can't remember which designer!) from Galleria Wedding in LA (on W. 6th Street).  My sister said it was a very nice gown and I am now considering it -- given that in addition to "going green", I won't have to worry about storage or selling it afterwards.  The only caveat about the Galleria Wedding is that the folks there might speak little English -- mostly Korean. This might me a problem if you don't speak Korean. So, if you've got a friend that can translate for you, that would be really helpful to bring them along.
