Ivory, or champagne?

I've narrowed the gown down to Mikaella 1263 (no idea how to do pictures), and I'm almost ready to order it. I have a minor dilemma though. I have always dreamed of a white gown. The store only has the gown to look at in champagne, and based on photos I've seen online, I honestly don't really like the dress in ivory (it looks glaringly white), it seems like the lace and details are hidden. Plus, I'm so pale I'm pretty much translucent (and tanning, even in a tanning bed = instant sunburn. Blasted red-headed parents). I plan on spray tanning or something for some color, but I don't want to look like Casper the friendly bride. So, my question: is champagne really that off white? If I don't go for a true white, will I even care at the end of the day?

I was set on getting a white dress. I had the sample on, fell in love, and then was told I was wearing Ivory, not white! I couldn't believe the dress wasn't white. When the woman brought out a sample of a white gown, I noticed a difference right away but still ended up with ivory because it looked better with my skin tone. If you are unsure, try finding a store that has the the ivory color, that way you can compare the two.

champagne is typically almost beige. If you wanted white originally, I think you will be dissappointed with champaigne. I think at the end of the day, ivory is VERY common for dresses. I agree that you should just go try one on. It may not be the exact same ivory as the dress you are ordering, but it will be close enough to get a good idea of if you will like it.

Get whatever looks best on your skintone. Sticking with white or ivory just for the sake of "tradition" will do you no good if the white/ivory doesn't flatter your skintone.

Completely agree with other posters. I would recommend going to a bridal shop, an trying on a few in white, a few in ivory, and a few in champagne.  I always thought diamond white looked great on me, then i tried champagne and wow, it was a huge difference on my skin tone.  Keep in mind the lighting of your wedding day too. Diff dresses will look different on you in stark daylight compared to under candlelight

Every designer has different color for ivory and champagne but it you want to see the difference (around about what it would be) my dress (Casablanca) in my siggy pic is ivory and champagne.

Lots of designers have their own take on Ivory, off-white, white, champagne. So I agree with the other girls that you should go with what's best with your skin tone. I wanted white, and the gown I chose was in gold. I was this close to getting it in gold, but like pp said, I think I would have been disappointed bc I've always wanted to wear white, and I thought both looked good with my complexion.

I had my heart set on a white dress and fell in love with a champagne gown, when i saw the same gown in white it wasnt the same " this is my dress" feeling. So I must say I'm partial to champagne.

I'm a redhead, so I understand your worry of blending into the dress. I had thought I would get white, but when I actually tried it on I was blinded by the shear whiteness of it. I then focused on getting an ivory dress, which looked great on me. But when I happened to find The Dress, it was in champagne. I tried it on in ivory and, as the above poster said, it just wasn't the same. It was no longer The Dress. So I would say that they only way to truly know is try on a similar dress in ivory if you can't try your dress on in ivory. Good luck :)

I think ivory is much more modern and chic, but honestly I wore an ivory dress and most people thought it was white so I don't think it makes a huge difference (although I was dead set on NOT getting a white gown). Champagne is risky I think...
