Dress pricing help!

Hi ladies! I am in the process of looking for the perfect dress. I see girls on Say Yes to the Dress trying to negotiate pricing quite often...is this normal or insulting to the consultants? What is the proper etiquette? I'm going in a few days and I just want to be prepared:) Thanks!

I think it would depend on what type of store you went to. If you go to a mom and pop shop then whoever works there might have more power to negotiate. I would ask if the store ever negotiates on prices, sells off the rack, or has trunk shows with discounts. This might get the ball rolling without being pushy.

I didn't even know you could negotiate on the prices. Although, I guess it makes sense. Where I live, the same dress is priced twice is high as it is in my home town. But, I doubt the manufacturer makes the price any different regardless of the location of the boutique, or maybe they do. I don't know. I am always shy when it comes to stuff like that...but if you aren't, it doesn't hurt to try!

You can totally negotiate, especially with the economy the way it is. I just purchased the Jim Hjelm 8962 dress. I tried it on in Seattle, they retailed it at $4700 but I wasn't satisfied, I called around, found it in Oregon, retailed at $4250 with 10% off too, just b/c I simply asked (over the phone) if they were able to budge on the price at all and that's what the gal said she could do! Definitley try!! I didn't try to negotiate with my photographer or on our venue but I'm going to try now when I order my flowers since it worked so well!!!!Good Luck

Thanks! Love the shoes, BTW...are they as comfortable as they look?? I haven't had my wedding yet, so I try not to try on the shoes too much!  Hopefully they will be comfortable enough for a few hours! Thanks for the compliment!

LMAO...how about a dress for $5450 and there is no negotiating, it is what it is.

You can negotiate the prices of alot of things, it's all how you approach the vendor.

You can always negotiate on things - my consultant offered me 10% off without me even asking.  Or ask if they'll throw in the shoes, give you a break on the veil, etc.  We negotiated with every single vendor - got an extra hour and speaker with the DJ, got reduced pricing on part of our photographer package because we didn't want another part of it etc.  The trick is to ask two things: 1) is there any flexibility on the price 2) is there anything extra you can throw in.  You can do it politely and it works a lot of the time.
