BRIDES: Would you rent your wedding dress online?

Brides, would you consider renting a designer wedding dress from a reputable website for a fraction of the original cost? This is for a bride who wants a couture dress, but cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars. If you did pay thousands of dollars for your wedding dress, would you consider renting it out to brides to recoup some of your money? Thoughts...Comments...

  • If I had the option, I definitely would have considered renting my dress. If I wanted to recoup money from my dress, I'd just sell it. Are you trying to set up a gown rental business or something?

  • I thought of starting this business up a long time ago, at first when I went to prom... and men could rent tux's but women had to buy a gown. The main problem with this is, a woman wants the dress to fit all curves of her body. If you are renting an expensive gown, I'm guessing you can't alter it/bustle it the way you want, etc. So in theory, great idea, but in reality, I would think it would be almost impossible to pull off.
  • I would totally rent a dress if I could find the one i wanted, and there was a way to perhaps do a "temporary" alteration to make it fit me
  • I agree...renting isn't an option that I would consider...however...my Enzoani gown that I purchased new will be about $2150.00 when all is said and done, which I think is fairly reasonable for my budget. Since it is unlikely that I will pass this dress on, I fully intend to sell it after my wedding. It's tempting to hang on to it for sentimental reasons, but on that note...I still have all of my prom gowns, dance gowns and dresses that I wore in 3 other weddings as a BM. And they are in my Mom's basement in storage and I haven't looked at them in YEARS! I figure that with the economy being what it is, at least this way, maybe some frugal bride can enjoy a designer dress, worn once, and not have to shell out 2k...

  • I would have definitely considered renting a dress.  Other than the fact that it might be a bit of work finding a dress that will fit you well without needing alterations, I see nothing wrong with the idea. The way I see it... if the fiance gets away with renting his tux... why couldn't I get away with renting my dress?  :-)  I am under the opinion that a "dress is a dress" and don't get too hung up on the supersitions or attitudes about a wedding dress.  I think its all about looking great and feeling great on your day in your dress... who cares how you acquired it!I did end up buying my dress from someone else to save a substantial amount of money and I was just as pleased going that route.
