Sample sales

Does anybody have experience with sample sales? Specifically, Priscilla of Boston sample sales?  I got an email about a sale going on all weekend and it says that the prices will be as low as $199 from original prices of $1500 to $8000.  The nearest salon is about an hour from FMIL's where we will be staying all weekend.  Do you think that many of these gowns will be affordable or will there be about 2 gowns under $500?  I've never been to one so I have no idea if it's worth it or not.  Thanks :)

Re: Sample sales

• Also keep in mind that they will most likely only have sample sizes.  I had called the Priscillia of Boston store a few months ago to inquire about what sizes they would offer and she couldn't say for sure but said it was mainly only sample sizes.
• I am getting my gown from POB. The sales they have are supposed to be good, unfortunately I'm too big for a sample sale. My POB store is in Tysons Corner, Va. The best thing to do is go and check it out.I really wish the dresses I liked were going on sale....
• I think you can definately get good deals but it stock and sizing will vary.  Another thing to consider is what kind of shopper you are.  I am so not impulsive that even if I find a dress i love I can't imagine buying it right then without thinking about it because I am so afraid of regretting my decision.  This happened at a Sample sale for me.  I found a wonderful Marisa dress (839) but I felt I needed to drop some lbs and I hadn't shopped a lot.  I've now dropped 20 lbs and wouldn't loved to have that dress but know I couldn't have bought it then and be ok with it.
• I bought my gown at a POB sample sale, PIB. It was originally $5,000 and I bought it for $1000. I didn't see many $150 dresses, but I think it depends on what they have at the time. My sister bought a silk BM dress for her HS graduation for $19, it was originally $350. I think it's worth going if it's an hour away.
• Are you by chance going to the Philadelphia area? If so you should check out the Sample Rack and Sabrina Ann. http://tinyurl.com/cvypp3 http://www.sabrinaann.com/
• Thanks for the info everybody!  I actually am going to Pottstown, but probably can't go all the way to Philly (where the POB salon is) until Sunday.  I really hope that those other places are open then because they sound great.  I'm not set on a POB dress whatsoever, but haven't found my dress yet either.  I thought I had one but don't like the pictures so I thought it would be a good thing to keep looking.  My budget is around $1000 but of course I'd LOVE to spend way less than that.
• I was thinking about going to this sale too ( I live in the Northern Virginia area) but I don't know if it will be worth it.  The sale starts tomorrow, but I won't be able to go until Saturday morning...I don't know how many people go during the week and if it will be all picked over by the weekend.  Also, my parents live in PA, and I don't know if it would be worth having my mom come down here if its going to be a waste of time.  Anybody else have sample sale success stories or words of wisdom?
• Definitely check it out. I went to the Tysons POB yesterday and bought a $7000 gown for $500. I'm looking at around $700 in alterations since the sample is a size 8 and I'm around a 0-2, but it's still a fantastic buy. This was my first sample sale so I don't know how the selection compares, but I thought there were a lot of good deals there, including a decent number of $1000, $500, $200 and even $100 gowns. They also had $350 shoes for $25. I went just to see what a sample sale was like, completely not expecting to buy anything, and walked out with my dress.
