Kleinfeld/Say Yes to the Dress- Discounts

On the show, it seems as if the give a LOT of discounts to brides who "can't afford" their expensive gowns. Do you know if they give these kinds of discounts out all the time? Having paid full price for my designer gown (which I did not purchase at Kleinfeld's), I'd be kind of upset to know someone got it cheaper because they went to this store and begged for a cheaper price.

Re: Kleinfeld/Say Yes to the Dress- Discounts

  • I got a discount at Kleinfelds and I didn't "beg" for a discount.  Like any place you should see if they would come lower on the price.  It doesn't hurt to ask.  I didn't get a huge discount but it was around 15%.
  • I don't know about Kleinfeld's specifically but I was able to negotiate with the store I bought my dress from and got it for a great price - cheaper than anywhere I could find it even online.  I believe the designers give the stores a guideline and then the stores are able to base prices upon that - I assume depending on how much profit they want to make from the dress - They mark up the dresses so much that there always seems to be wiggle room - I mean stores are always doing sample sales and things of the sort and I very much doubt they are usually selling them for a loss. That being said, I think some designers are probably stricter on pricing and most set a bottom line price for their dresses.

  • Carolina Herrera gives you a 10% discount if you open a charge account there.
  • I bought my dress during a Priscilla of Boston trunk show at PoB and they gave me 10% off for the trunk show and 15% off for opening up a credit card.
  • I think regardless of which bridal shop it is, you should always try to ask for a discount.  The worst they would say is no.  I bought my gown when the store was having  10% sale off all the special order stores.  My fiance (yes, I shopped with him :) ) asked them if they could do better than 10% and suggested 15%, and the owner said "yes" immediately so we got an extra 5% off.  I probably wouldn't have asked for an exact amount just to see what they would say, as you never know how much lower they would go, but my fiance didn't want to be greedy. :P  But, yeah, I heard that many brides have gotten discounts at their stores simply by just asking for it.
