Body Changes

Hello all! As my wedding isn't until Otober 2010 and I am working to get rid of a few pounds, it occurred to me that there may be some dress changes. Currently I am a size 12, I have tried on a few dresses, I really like the A-Line type but it's a size 16 and I am trying to get to a size 10 (normal clothes size). Does this mean I would have to start all over again AS my body changes or do I just need to do alterations? Happily I do have time on my side and I haven't made a commitment to anything. Thanks! Sarah

Re: Body Changes

  • I was mid-weight loss when I ordered my gown.  They told me to order corset back so it could be adjusted easily, and they said they could take any dress up to 4 sizes down.  So they could make a 16 a 10.  They said as long as I didn't go down more than 4 dress sizes, I was golden.  Talk to you seamstress.  It will depend on the dress. Some are easier to alter than others and certain styles will be comprimised if altered.  With an A-line style, you should be ok.
  • I would wait until a little closer to purchase THE dress.  Like pp said the corset backs are very adjustable so that is an option.  I lost 20lbs and when I first tried on dresses I was looking at A lines too, but after dropping the weight and feeling and looking better I tried a more fitted gown and loved it!  It wasn't flattering on me at my previous weight but now I'm glad I didn't buy one of the A lines!
  • I bought my gown before losing 20 pounds and cried when I went in to try it on again.  My body is so different now and I bought the dress because it flattered my shape then and hid areas I was not too proud of but now that I am smaller I wish I had something that shows off my body and hard work!  I say wait until you get a little closer to actually make a purchase - I wish I had!
  • Since you still have time, I'd definitely wait.
  • I think either get a corset back or wait till you've lost most-all the weight you'd like to loose. When you loose the weight your probably going to love the way you look and want to flaunt that new bod! A-lines are very flattering for you now and can be very flattering when you loose the weight but you may say hm I'd rather have a mermaid instead.
