Vintage 1950's Tea-Length Dress

Hi there! I've been engaged for a couple months and am on the hunt for a dress similar to this: http://www.poshgirlvintage.com/1950s-ivory-pink-strapless-wedding-dress-p-918.html Second best is this: http://i34.tinypic.com/5xu4q8.jpg I love Stephanie James Couture but she's out of my price range. (~$1800!) I was hoping I could get away with spending ~$500 on this type of dress. I've been looking at wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses that may come in ivory, and vintage shops. I even looked into how much it would be to have it custom made and it was ~$1k. We are doing a May wedding in Vegas, outdoors so I am set on a tea-length and even though some lines offer them, they don't carry them in store to try on and I am wary to purchase anything without trying it on first. Thoughts? Help? xoxo Leah

It'd really be $1K for a custom dress? Where did you get these quotes (online or in a shop)? What type of fabric did they quote you for, silk or something else? Try Etsy.com for a custom dress.

I forgot to address your original question- if you order online, just make sure the dress has a good return policy, in case you don't like it.  Also, as PP said, check for vintage shops in your area on your local board, or further out of your area.  Online will probably give you the biggest variety of options, since shops are hit and miss, at best.  BTW, I'm not a tea length bride, but I love the dresses the original designer you mentioned have!  They are beautiful.

Hi!I bought my vintage replica on www.unique.vintage.com They have a good return policy and most of the dresses are under $200.  Other sites you should check out are Dolly Couture as PP stated and www.whirlingturban.com Whirling Turban has some dresses already made that might fit in your price range, I think to have on made through them would cost you much more. Also, I found a great dress maker on etsy. Her prices are pretty low and she makes them custom from 1950's patterns. http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6504405 Hope I helped.

Oh I was going to add too that dessy has several bridesmaid dresses that I had considered. Not exactly vintage looking, but the same basic sape you like I think.  The dresses came in a white or ivory also.

yes- dolly couture and whirling turban are GREAT. dolly is selling some sample dresses on ebay right now for under $300, you may wanna do a search for her auctions and see what's available. o/wise you will need to order something which is great b/c it will be a custom fit dress for about $500 if i remember correctly.
