Trunk Shows vs Sample Sales?

This might be a dumb question, but I haven't yet started dress shopping, so I am totally clueless! I have a low budget for my wedding dress, and I am wondering what is the difference between trunk shows and sample sales? Specifically, what is a trunk show and would it be likely that I could score a good deal at one like at a sample sale? I don't want to waste my time if not. Thanks!

Re: Trunk Shows vs Sample Sales?

  • A sample will be a used gown and might need cleaning or repair in addition to any necessary alterations.  At a trunk show, you will be purchasing a brand new gown (usually with some sort of discount or incentive) from a designer who may or may not have extra designs not readily available to the public.
  • My understanding that a trunk show is when the disgner or their rep is there and they sowyou the new lines and you get a percentage off, like 10%. A sample sale is where they store sells all the samples that brides have been trying on over the past year or so, to make room for the new ones coming in from the designer. If you want a brand new designer dress, then a trunk show is your deal. If you want a nice dress that may need to be cleaned, but is otherwise ok, at a deep discount, go for a sample sale.

  • If you can fit into a sample and you are on a budget, then I think a sample sale is best.  DEEP discounts (found the monique lhuillier  of my dreams at a sample sale marked down from $5000 to $1200).  The dress was still in great condition, as most bridal salons take very good care of their gowns.  Just keep in mind that you might need to alter it or have it cleaned, which could end up costing a pretty penny!
