Ordering The Dress

So i found "The One" a few months ago and now I finally have the money to pay for it. My mom said I should wait to buy it because it will yellow by the wedding (June 2011). So my questions are: 1) How much would it yellow between the time I receive the dress and the day of the wedding 2) I'm having some changes made to it (straight across to soft sweetheart neckline, shortening the train, zip close to corset close), will it take longer for the designer to make? Thanks so much. :)

I think that it takes more than a few years for the dress to yellow.  I went to a store that only sells sample dresses that come from it's main store, some of the dresses from lines from 2006.  I'm not sure what year mine is from but it had not yellowed at all, they also didn't say anything about yellowing and I'm not going to be using it for about 2 years.  I would question the bridal store though they would know best but really I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I don't think it will yellow. I bought my dress a year and a half before my wedding and the bridal shop suggested I buy the garmet bag and to buy a plain white sheet to put around the dress to protect it from dust...so that may help it keep the color as well. Making alterations to the dress may take weeks to months depending on how busy the designer is but with all the changes how is your dress "the one"?? I'm not trying to be mean or rude just thinking maybe you should look around for a dress w/the neckline you want and the corset you want. GL!

I have already ordered my dress and my wedding is not until May 2011, so a month before you. The dress will not yellow. My dress was supposed to be here in Nov, but it has been delayed twice, not scheduled end of Dec. The only changes I made to the dress was to add extra length. As far as how long it will take for your dress, I would check w/ the bridal salon and see what the normal shipping time is for your designer, then add a few weeks to that. But if you order during a busy time then it could take slightly longer. I will be storing it flat under the bed in guest bdrm, wrapped in a white sheet, that I washed w/o detergent. As a matter of fact I was recently at my grandmothers house and she was storing my aunts all lace wedding dress. It had been stored in my grandmas attic in an acid free box(not preserved), and it has not yellowed at all and she got married at least 15yrs ago!

Don't put it in a plastic/vinyl bag, keep it out of the light, keep it away from moisture. The alterations shouldn't take more than a few months max (I assume). I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.
