Did your beaded bodice rub your arms the wrong way?

Hello all! I'm so happy to say I finally found my wedding dress the other day! It's absolutely perfect for me, and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. My only question/concern is that after about 20 mins of wearing and walking around in the dress, the beading on the sides of the bodice started to rub up against my arm (right under my armpit), which made it sore and a little red. The sample that I tried on was a few sizes too small, so they left it open in the back and it wasn't fitted correctly at the bust and was too lose. I'm hoping this is the reason why it rubbed so much. Did anybody else have this problem? It won't deter me from wearing the dress since I loved it so much, but I was wondering if anybody knows any tricks to stop this. Thanks!

  • I had that problem too, but mine fit me perfectly. So I am curious how to fix this too.

  • My dress was beautiful, but horribly uncomfortable.  I think it wasn't altered correctly, so the armpits were way too high.  I even put a kleenex under one arm while getting ready and when I was up on stage I realized that it was still there so I was very careful not to raise my arms.  One light moment.  I don't know if there's a good solution.  I just chalked it up to the price we pay for beauty.
  • Yes... But the lady who is fixing my dress is putting a small piece of shear material under my arms and sewing in in place. You can see the beading through but it doesn't hurt anymore. It's wonderful!!
I wish I had known about it before this, I have a few dresses that do it.
lol Now I want them all fixed.

  • Not my dress but my soon to be sister in law's dress really, really bothered her by the end of the night.  It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with proper fit, rather, the use of beads which can be abrasive.  This was a major reason I chose a dress that didn't have any beading on the sides.

I have heard of some brides using anti-chafing powder, etc. but IMO if it's uncomfortable in the first 20 minutes you have it on, imagine it after 5+ hours!

  • I like the fabric idea, KJeffs. I may just have to try that!

The first time I put my dress on it was fine, but my second fitting rubbed my arms so bad within 5 minutes. My second fitting was also uncomfortable. I came to find out I didn't have my dress sitting the way it should have on my body. Make sure before any lacing is done that you have your dress sitting comfortably. Don't rush putting on the dress and just zipping or lacing it up. This worked for me. I'd say do the fabric thing :-)  Ingenious idea.
  • I second the fabric idea. a little bit of tulle over the beading under your arms will probably feel a lot better, and from far away wont be noticable at all.
