Winter Wedding Bridesmaids (Clicky Poll Too)

Let me know your thoughts, I'm on the fence. I found a beautiful bridesmaids dress that is very similar to my wedding dress in style, but it's short (knee length)  and we will, most likely, have snow on our wedding day.

Re: Winter Wedding Bridesmaids (Clicky Poll Too)

  • I'm having a winter wedding and doing long dresses. I think short ones could work, if all your girls agree to it and if you let them wear tights if they want.
  • We're also having a winter wedding, and our girls are wearing long dresses. I think some of it has to do with how formal or informal your wedding is going to be? Ours is Black Tie optional, which I understand means that women may wear long evening gowns, although shorter is also acceptable if it is dressy enough. If your wedding is less formal, I definitely agree with the above post that says if the girls are ok with it and can maybe wear tights if they want, then you should be good with the shorter dresses!
We're on 12/29, how about you?
Thoughts about their bouquets? (just curious, not sure what we are doing yet!)
  • I agree.  Ask them if they prefer short or long, let them wear tights and maybe even a shawl or shoulder wrap to keep them warm.

I'm having a winter wedding and for me personally, long was the only way to go. It really does depend on where you're having it (e.g. you could totally get away with short dresses during the wintertime in Texas) and also the overall feeling of your wedding. I'm having a pretty formal wedding that I anticipate to not only be cold but also snowy for. We're taking pictures outside and I feel bad enough about that to begin with! Do you plan on doing this with your girls? Definitely take their feelings into consideration! I don't know too many people that would be OK with taking pictures outside in short dresses on a cold winters day.

I think that tights and a shawl/wrap would be good with a short dress in the winter.  I would let your bridesmaids decide which they feel more comfortable in.

  • MN winter wedding here... long dresses.  Didn't even consider short! I think it will be bad enough not wearing snowpants and boots while going outside :) LOL
  • My wedding is in December about 45 minutes north of Boston.  My ladies have long dresses.  I am hoping to get a few photos outside, so I definitely didn't want to have them standing in snow (if it's snowy) in a knee-length dress.

  • I'm having a morning winter wedding, so...short it is.
  • My wedding is late fall/ early winter but Massachusetts in November feels like winter. So far the two who I have asked want short dresses. I'm just going to let them choose what they are comfortable wearing in terms of length.

  • To me it really doesn't matter because I wear cocktail dresses to all the weddings that I am invited to whether they are in the summer or the winter.  What it comes down to is where you are getting married, the overall feel of your wedding and level of formality.

  • I think longer dresses are better. Short dresses with tights might make the less look less special.

You can check out my lace dresses from my DREAM-ERS line at http://www.trendsettervintage.com/DREAM-ERS.  We can make the short dress longer for you if you would like.
  • I am having a winter wedding and the BMs will likely be in short dresses.  But we are in Texas and it is a morning wedding, so I feel like long dresses are too formal.
