Beach Wedding Apparel

Hi everybody!  So, my fiance & I are getting married on a beach, August 2011.  We should know which beach within the next few weeks, but possibly somewhere in Mexico, Jamaica, or St. Lucia.  My fiance is convinced that it is normal for the groom and groomsmen to wear khaki shorts to the wedding, b/c it will be on a beach, beach atmosphere, beach temperatures, etc.  I find this really appalling and am not into it at all.  I plan to wear a short wedding dress, not gown.  Thoughts, please?!

You don't have a yes option.

I say "yes" if you are going for an informal beach wedding.

If you want something somewhat formal, what about khaki pants, shirt and sportcoats, no tie. That will give it a kind of formal, but beachy feel

Okay thanks for the feedback so far.  I messed up on the poll and am trying to find how to edit it, but haven't figured it out yet so I might put up a new poll with more options.  I love the idea of light colored khaki long pants with a white, very light linen shirt and no shoes.  I found an example of the type of dress I most likely want.  Here is the description: This fun and flirty short dress features unique satin bands and modern 3D floral appliques.Strapless silhouette designed in satin andorganza. I want the bridesmaids to be in something knee length also, either with thin straps or strapless and in a pink or blue most likely.  In my opinion, I think khaki shorts will look out of place at a wedding.

I think since you're wearing a short dress it's ok.  I would prefer Khaki pants though.

Looking at the dress you chose, it looks more casual.

I think you need to let the groomsmen decide whether they want shorts or pants. They can get nice looking khaki shorts.

But, if you were to expect them to wear pants on a beach, then it would only be fair that you wear a full length gown with a train. It's a little much for a destination beach wedding KWIM

I am definitely not wanting to wear a full length gown, & of course I don't want my bridesmaids to either.  But, it most photo's I've seen, the groom does not wear shorts, even with a casual bride, b/c the bride is still a wearing a bridal dress.  As far as expecting them to wear pants, just talking light colored khakis with a white button up super light linen shirt.  Not like a tux or suit pants or anything like that, that would definitely be silly.

Your dress is cute!  And if your dress is short and casual, yes, they can wear shorts.  If you REALLY don't want them to, say so, but at least you'll all be comfortable!

We are having a beach wedding in July 2011, and although I want a beach type wedding dress, I will most likely have my kids and the groom in khaki type shorts with linen shirts.
